What Do You Do If You Feel Cheated as a Christian?

As Christians, we often face situations where we feel wronged, cheated, or treated unfairly. It is easy to feel frustrated and allow offense to settle in. However, as children of God, we are called to respond differently. What makes us Children of God does not make us weak people—it makes us wise and strong in spirit.

What Do You Do If You Feel Cheated as a Christian?

Numbers 27:1-11, Matthew 5:14, Esther 4:16

As Christians, we often face situations where we feel wronged, cheated, or treated unfairly. It is easy to feel frustrated and allow offense to settle in. However, as children of God, we are called to respond differently. What makes us Children of God does not make us weak people—it makes us wise and strong in spirit.

“What makes us good Christians also makes us good citizens.”TB Joshua

The Example of the Daughters of Zelophehad

When you feel cheated, rather than murmuring, gossiping, or despairing, take inspiration from the daughters of Zelophehad in Numbers 27:1–11.

These five sisters faced injustice—they were denied their father’s inheritance simply because they were women. Instead of complaining among themselves or accepting their situation, they:

  1. Crafted a Plan
They prepared their case thoughtfully and wisely.

  2. Approached the Right Authority
They boldly brought their concern to Moses and the leaders of Israel.

  3. Presented Their Case Boldly and Wisely
They spoke clearly, respectfully, and confidently, explaining why the law was unjust.

  4. Trusted God to Back Them Up
God legitimized their claim, commanded Moses to grant them their inheritance, and established a law that would protect women in similar situations for generations (Numbers 27:6-7, 11).

Their story reminds us that as Christians, we are called to be change-makers and world-changers (Matthew 5:14). When there’s a burden in your heart about an injustice, don’t remain silent.

Speak Out, But Do It Wisely

When you feel cheated:

  • Don’t let offense, murmuring, or gossip control your actions.

  • Instead, listen to your conscience. If your conscience agrees, craft a plan and speak out. If your conscience does not agree, remain silent and let God guide you.

Be Like Esther: Courage with a Plan

In Esther 4:15-16, we see another example of wisdom and boldness. Esther faced a life-or-death situation when her people, the Jews, were at risk of annihilation. She could have remained silent, but her conscience wouldn’t allow it.

What did she do?

  1. Crafted a Plan
She prepared herself spiritually through fasting and prayer.

  2. Sought Conscience Approval
Her heart was clear about speaking out and approaching the king.

  3. Executed Boldly and Wisely
Esther took her plan to the king, presenting her case humbly and confidently. Her actions saved her people, and God backed her up.

What TB Joshua Taught About Speaking Out

At the SCOAN, Prophet TB Joshua encouraged speaking out boldly and wisely if you had a concern or felt something was wrong.

He would emphasize that silence in the face of injustice or concern is not always the best course of action. Instead:

  • Craft a plan of action.

  • Check your conscience.

  • Execute your plan boldly and wisely.

Prophet TB Joshua often made time out of his busy schedule to listen to reports and concerns from everyone—from Youth Workers to Ushers, Choristers, Vigilante, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Disciples. This practice of listening and addressing concerns is a reflection of godly wisdom.

Steps to Take When You Feel Cheated

  1. Craft a Plan
Reflect on the situation and seek God’s wisdom. Think through your approach carefully, ensuring that your plan is grounded in humility and truth.

  2. Check Your Conscience
Is your conscience at peace with your plan? If not, remain silent and wait for God’s guidance. But if your conscience approves, proceed boldly.

  3. Execute Boldly and Wisely
Approach the right people or authorities with confidence and respect, trusting God to guide your words and actions.

  4. Trust God to Back You Up
Remember, when you act in accordance with God’s will, He will support you, just as He did for the daughters of Zelophehad and Esther.

Key Scriptures to Reflect On

  • Numbers 27:6-7: God legitimized the daughters of Zelophehad’s claim, saying, “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right.”

  • Matthew 5:14: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

  • Esther 4:16: “I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

A Final Word

As Christians, we are not called to live in silence when we encounter injustice or feel cheated. But our response must always reflect godly wisdom, humility, and courage.

Be wise, be bold, and trust that when you act in line with God’s will, He will back you up.

Prayer

🙏 Father, help me to respond to injustice with wisdom, boldness, and humility. Teach me to rely on Your Spirit for guidance and to trust You to fight my battles. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
