Figure 1: Obedience Gives You Power - SpiritWorshipGen

🌿 Obedience Gives You Power: How Submission to God Leads to True Success

Key Scriptures:

  • 2 Chronicles 26:5, 2 Chronicles 26:15-16, 2 Chronicles 27:6, Genesis 37–50, Daniel 1–6, Luke 1:38, Philippians 2:8–9

Introduction: Obedience Is the Gateway to Divine Power

In today’s world, power is often associated with influence, intelligence, and resources. But in the Kingdom of God, true power comes through obedience. The most powerful men and women in Scripture were not the most brilliant or famous, but the most obedient to the voice and commands of God.

💡 A Word from Prophet TB Joshua

“Live your Christian life the same way you began it.”

Prophet TB Joshua once said, “Live your Christian life the same way you began it.” What he meant was that the same humility and surrender you showed when you first met Christ must become your daily lifestyle. Obedience is not a one-time decision; it is a continuous posture of surrender to God’s will.

Obedience is not a phase—it is a lifestyle.

Let’s ask ourselves three important questions:

  1. Am I seeking God’s guidance in every decision—or just the big ones?
  2. Am I still living with the same obedience and devotion I had when I first believed?
  3. Do I value success over submission—or have I made obedience my lifestyle?

These questions are not just reflective—they are directional, guiding us toward a deeper walk with God.

Now, let’s look deeper at how obedience attracts power, and how that power must remain anchored in humility to prevent a fall.

📖 Obedience Activates Divine Success

As long as he sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success.”— 2 Chronicles 26:5 (NLT)

King Uzziah started well. He sought God and aligned his decisions with divine instruction. As a result, God gave him success in everything he did—military conquest, infrastructure, agriculture, and even inventions.

The key phrase? “As long as.”
It reminds us that success in God’s Kingdom is conditional on sustained obedience.

Now personalize it:

“As long as I, [insert your name], seek guidance from the Lord, He will give me success in all I do.”

“As long as I, Samuel [insert your own name], seek guidance from the Lord, He will give me success in all I do.”

But be warned:

“But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall.”
— 2 Chronicles 26:16

Uzziah’s story (2 Chronicles 26) is a powerful caution: Power without humility breeds pride, and pride leads to destruction.

⚠️ Pride Is Satan’s Glory

Pride was Satan’s downfall (Isaiah 14:12–15). It is still his weapon of choice.

You can’t feast on pride and remain in God’s presence.

🌿 Power without obedience invites pride, and pride brings destruction.

“His fame spread far and wide, for the Lord gave him marvelous help, and he became very powerful.” — 2 Chronicles 26:15

“But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall.” — 2 Chronicles 26:16

The same Uzziah who became successful due to obedience also became proud because of his success. He forgot the Source. When pride entered, power turned to poison.

Spiritual Warning:
You can’t eat from the table of pride and remain secure in God. Pride is Satan’s glory. It caused his downfall, and he uses the same bait against believers today.

💡 A Word from Prophet TB Joshua

As Prophet TB Joshua says:

“You need God not only to bless you—but to maintain His blessings in your life.”

🙏 Biblical Heroes of Obedience

Here are more powerful examples of men and women who became unstoppable because of their obedience:

Abraham: Obedience That Changed History

“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” — Hebrews 11:8

Abraham’s willingness to leave everything familiar and obey God’s call made him the father of nations. His obedience—even when it meant sacrificing Isaac—demonstrated absolute trust in God’s promises. Because of this, God established an everlasting covenant with him.

Jotham: A Case Study in Sustained Obedience

“Jotham became powerful because he was careful to live in obedience to the Lord his God.” — 2 Chronicles 27:6

Unlike Uzziah, his father, Jotham remained humble even after gaining power. His care to obey God didn’t just bring success—it preserved his legacy. This is what it means to both rise and remain in God’s power.

JosephGenesis 37–50

Despite betrayal, imprisonment, and injustice, Joseph refused to disobey God. His obedience preserved his integrity and opened the door to Egypt’s throne.
Genesis 41:38–41 — Pharaoh said, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?”

DanielDaniel 1–6

He refused to defile himself with the king’s food and remained committed to prayer—even when threatened with death. God promoted him above all governors.
Daniel 6:3“Daniel so distinguished himself… because of his exceptional spirit.”

Mary (Mother of Jesus)Luke 1:38

Her obedient response to the angel’s message changed history:
“Let it be to me according to your word.”

Jesus Christ HimselfPhilippians 2:8–9

“He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross. Therefore God exalted Him…”

Prophet TB Joshua’s Divine Calling – Life After Life

The Holy Spirit instructed TB Joshua to undertake a prolonged time of seeking God’s face on a prayer mountain near his hometown of Arigidi. After fasting and praying for 40 days and 40 nights, he experienced a heavenly vision.

“I was in a trance for three consecutive days. Then I saw a hand that pointed a Bible to my heart and the Bible entered my heart and my former heart seemed to immerse with the Bible immediately. Then the awareness came and I saw the apostles and prophets of old with someone whose head I could not see because He was tall to the Heaven and suspended, which I believe was our Lord, Jesus Christ, sitting in their midst. I also saw myself in their midst. After a while, I saw a hand of the same tall man; I could not behold His face, which was glittering with an unimaginable light, tall to the high Heavens and suspended in the air. But other apostles, I could see their faces, particularly Apostles Peter and Paul, Prophets Moses, Elijah and others. Their names were boldly written on their chests.

I heard a voice saying, ‘I am your God; I am giving you a divine commission to go and carry out the work of the Heavenly Father’. At the same time, the same hand of the tall man gave me a small cross and a big Bible, bigger than the one that entered my heart, with a promise that as I keep pressing in His time and name, I would be given a bigger cross but if I failed the opposite would occur. I also heard the voice of the same tall man (I could not see His head), saying, ‘I am the Lord your God who was and who is – Jesus Christ’, giving orders to all the apostles and prophets. The same voice said to me, ‘I will show you the wonderful ways I will reveal myself through you, in teaching, preaching, miracles, signs and wonders for the salvation of souls’. Since then, I have been receiving in my vision, every year according to my faithfulness to God, a bigger cross that means to me more responsibilities.

Because TB Joshua obeyed God’s commands he became very powerful and became a global and most influential figure in the Apostolic Ministry.

  1. Giving all TB Joshua achieved before he departed the world, some of which are mentioned below. The list is exhaustive:

  2. Built The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), a global centre of worship and miracles. Started with just 8 members in 1987 and grew to attract over 50,000 weekly attendees.

  3. Founded Emmanuel TV in March 2006 — the most watched Christian TV station in the world — with over 100 million global viewers (by 2015).

  4. Operated fully in an extraordinary six-fold Apostolic Ministry like never seen before in modern Christianity — Healing, Deliverance, Profound Teaching, Prophecy, Signs & Wonders, Writing in Tongues (never seen anything like it).

  5. The first minister of God to stretch out his hand at a distance, causing people to move uncontrollably and even fall at the wave of his hands or in response to his body movements.

  6. Successfully instituted a discipleship of people from all races, tribes, colours and languages from different continents of the world.

  7. Reached millions worldwide through Emmanuel TV and digital evangelism.

  8. He earned the title of “Most Persecuted and Hated Pastor” in his generation just like His Father Jesus Christ—Luke 4:16-30

  9. Pioneered the “Distance Is Not A Barrier” slogan or philosophy.

  10. Provided humanitarian aid, scholarships, and disaster relief to thousands across Africa and beyond.

  11. Mentored and raised a new generation of ministers and leaders globally.

  12. Authored numerous spiritual resources or “Faith Tools” (stickers, faith bracelets, Anointing Water, Morning Water, passports, Living Water) and books (The Mirror — November 2006, The Step Between You and the Cure — 2012, What the Future Holds Volumes 1 & 2 — 2009, numerous MPGs/sermons, etc.) impacting believers worldwide.

  13. First Black man to hold crusades in national stadiums with 99% foreigners filling the entire stadium capacity.

  14. First global evangelist to operate all his crusades fully sponsored by the church and partners, with no collection of offerings.

  15. Embodiment of humility and servant leadership by never owning a private property of his own. Lived in the church with his family throughout his life.

  16. Reached over 1.8 million YouTube subscribers, over 387 million YouTube views (by Oct 2018); 400 million by April 2021.

  17. Demonstrated humility and servant leadership despite global influence.

  18. Hosted international visitors, dignitaries (presidents, Nobel Laureates etc), and seekers from every continent.

  19. Left a legacy of love, faith, and practical Christianity that continues to inspire.

Obedience always precedes elevation.

Key Takeway: Obedience Is Your Protection

Obedience does not only bring success—it keeps you safe. The moment you begin to trust in your strength, wisdom, or fame, you step outside the umbrella of God’s protection.

God cannot trust a vessel that doesn’t obey Him. But once He sees your yielded heart, He will fill you with wisdom, favor, protection, and supernatural strength.

  • Joseph obeyed during hardship—and ruled in Egypt. (Genesis 37–50)
  • Daniel obeyed in exile—and reigned with excellence. (Daniel 1–6)
  • Mary said “Let it be to me according to Your Word”—and became the mother of the Messiah. (Luke 1:38)
  • Jesus obeyed unto death—and was exalted above all. (Philippians 2:8–9)
  • Jotham became powerful because he walked in obedience. (2 Chronicles 27:6)

These weren’t stories of ambition—they were stories of submission.

“Obedience isn’t weakness—it’s power under God’s control.”

“Obedience always precedes elevation.”

In a world chasing power, remember: the greatest power comes from daily, humble obedience to God.

Live low, stay close, rise high.

🙌 A Prayer of Surrender

Lord, help me to seek You daily and walk in obedience to Your Word.
Keep me from pride when success comes.
Teach me to remain humble and dependent on You.
Make me like Joseph, Daniel, and Jotham—powerful because of obedience.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
