Why Satan Cannot Stop Tempting God’s Children
Why Satan Cannot Stop Tempting God’s Children
Genesis 39:7-23, Job 1:9-12, James 1:12
Why Does Satan Keep Tempting You as a Child of God?
Have you ever wondered why Satan never stops tempting God’s children? The primary goal of his temptations is not just to disrupt our lives, but to overthrow our position before God and make us lose our standing with Him. Satan knows that if he can separate us from God, we lose the source of our strength, favor, and eternal hope.
The Case of Joseph: A Lesson in Spiritual Standing
When Satan targeted Joseph, the real objective wasn’t just to ruin his career as a servant in Potiphar’s house. Satan wanted to make Joseph sin so that he would lose his favor and position before God.
In Genesis 39:7-12, Joseph faced intense temptation when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. But Joseph refused, saying:
“How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9).
Joseph’s focus was clear—he valued his relationship with God above everything else. Even though he was falsely accused and thrown into prison, Joseph’s standing with God remained unshaken. And because he maintained his position before God:
God’s favor followed him wherever he went.
God elevated him in due time, taking him from the prison to the palace.
Genesis 39:21 says:
“But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.”
This shows us that losing earthly positions, jobs, or status is nothing compared to losing our standing before God.
Satan’s True Target: Your Position Before God
Satan’s ultimate goal is to separate you from God by tempting you to sin. He knows:
If you lose a job, there are many other jobs you can pursue.
If you lose opportunities, they can be restored.
But if you lose God, there is only one God who created heaven and earth, and there is no replacement for Him.
Satan’s strategy is to use trials, temptations, and distractions to make you abandon your relationship with God. But you must remain steadfast, just like Joseph, and refuse to be overthrown by the devil.
James 1:12 reminds us:
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
How to Maintain Your Position Before God
Value Your Relationship with God Above All Else
Like Joseph, recognize that your relationship with God is more valuable than any earthly position, wealth, or status.
Always ask yourself, “Will this decision bring me closer to God or drive me further from Him?”
Refuse to Yield to Temptation
Temptations will come, but you have the power to resist them through God’s grace.
1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us:
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Remain Faithful During Trials
Trials and difficulties are often tests of faith. Instead of complaining or giving up, trust God to work all things for your good.
Remember Joseph—what seemed like a setback (his imprisonment) was actually a setup for God’s greater plan in his life.
Stay Close to God Through Prayer and His Word
- Keep your prayer line active and meditate on Scripture daily. This will strengthen you to stand firm against Satan’s schemes.
Focus on God’s Favor, Not Earthly Losses
- Even if you lose something in the physical realm, remember that as long as you maintain your position with God, His favor will restore and multiply what you have lost.
Make the Right Choice Today
Refuse to be overthrown by the devil. No matter the temptations or trials you face, maintain your position before God Almighty. When you choose to remain steadfast in your faith, God’s favor will follow you wherever you go, just as it followed Joseph.
Prayer
“Lord Jesus, help me to value my relationship with You above everything else. Strengthen me to resist temptation and remain faithful during trials. May Your favor and presence follow me as I stand firm in You. Thank You for being my strength and refuge. Amen.”
