Are You Still Placing Your Hopes in Man?

Numbers 23:19, 1 Corinthians 13:13, Psalm 146:3-5

Why Placing Hope in Man Leads to Disappointment

People often build their hopes around promises made by others—friends, family, colleagues, or leaders. However, the Bible warns us against putting our trust in man:

Psalm 146:3 says:
“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.”

Why?

  • Humans are fallible. No matter how well-meaning someone may be, they are limited in power and ability.

  • Disappointment is inevitable. Placing your hope in man often leads to frustration because humans cannot always fulfill their promises.

The Danger of Trusting in Man

If you place your hope in man:

  1. You invite disappointment. Man’s promises are often unreliable.

  2. You create unnecessary dependence. Instead of relying on God, you become overly dependent on fallible human beings.

  3. You block God’s hand. When you trust in man, you limit what God wants to do in your life.

Build Your Hope on God’s Promises

As Christians, our hope should be built solely on the promises of God, not man.

Numbers 23:19 reminds us:
“God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?”

God’s promises are:

  • True – He always fulfills what He says.

  • Steadfast – His Word never changes.

  • Life-Giving – His promises bring peace, joy, and assurance.

When you place your hope in God’s promises, you position yourself to receive the mother of miracles—blessings beyond what you can imagine.

Faith, Hope, and Love

1 Corinthians 13:13:
“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Here’s how faith, hope, and love work together in your Christian journey:

  1. Hope

    • Hope is built on God’s promises. It is the confident expectation that God will do what He has said.
  2. Faith

    • Faith helps you bring God’s promises into reality. It is the action that makes your hope tangible.

    • Hebrews 11:1:
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

  3. Love

    • Love maintains and multiplies the blessings you receive. It helps you share those blessings with others, fulfilling God’s purpose in your life.

    • Jesus teaches us that love is the greatest commandment.

A Heavenly Partnership

Here’s how each part of the Trinity works in your life as you hope in God:

  1. The Father provides the promises you hope for.

  2. The Holy Spirit gives you the faith to bring those promises to life.

  3. Jesus teaches you how to maintain the blessings with love and how to share them with others.

Why Trust God Alone?

  1. God’s Love Never Fails

    • No matter how many times we fail, God’s love remains steadfast. Lamentations 3:22-23:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
  2. God Is All-Powerful

    • Unlike man, God has unlimited power to fulfill His promises. Jeremiah 32:17:
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You.”
  3. God Knows What’s Best

    • His plans for you are perfect and bring hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

How to Trust God Fully

  1. Read His Word

    • Build your hope by meditating on God’s promises in Scripture.
  2. Pray for Guidance

    • Ask God to strengthen your faith and help you focus on Him instead of people.
  3. Surrender Completely

    • Stop depending on man to solve your problems. Surrender everything to God and trust His timing.
  4. Encourage Yourself in the Lord

    • Remind yourself daily that God is faithful and His promises will never fail.

A Declaration of Trust

Say this boldly:

“Lord Jesus, I place my hope in You alone. I will not trust in man, but in Your unfailing promises. Strengthen my faith to bring Your promises to reality and fill my heart with Your love to share the blessings I receive. No matter the challenges I face, I know Your love will never fail me. Thank You for being my source, my provider, and my faithful God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Final Encouragement

Stop trusting in man and start trusting in God today. No matter how many times you’ve failed, God’s love never does.

When you build your hope on His promises, live by faith, and walk in love, you will see His miracles unfold in your life.
