Figure 1: What does the LORD require of you? - SpiritWorshipGen

🔍 The Question of Every Generation

In Matthew 22:36, a man asked Jesus:

“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the Law of Moses?”

Centuries before, Moses asked and answered this in Deuteronomy 10:12:

“And now, [Sammy], what does the LORD your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases Him, and love Him and serve Him with all your heart and soul.”

This isn’t a suggestion—it’s a divine requirement.

Yet today, many still struggle to live it fully.

Many want to obey God in part—not in full.
They cling to the commands that comfort them and avoid those that challenge them.

But God is not seeking part-time Christians. He wants all of you—your heart, your soul, your mind.
He’s seeking hearts wholly surrendered to Him.

Now these phrases stand out from that verse you just read:

  • “Fear the LORD”, ,

  • “Live to please Him”,

  • “Love Him”,

  • “Serve Him”,

  • “With all your heart and soul”

Let’s Expand on each one:

🙇🏽‍♂️ 1. What Does It Mean to Fear the Lord?

“He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”Micah 6:8

To fear the Lord is not to be afraid of Him—it’s to reverence and obey Him, even in the unseen.

To fear God doesn’t mean to live in terror—it means to walk in reverence, obedience, humility, and justice. It’s a heart posture that hates sin and honors righteousness.

It means:

🔥To do what is right when no one is watching

🔥Hating what God hates

🔥Loving what He loves

🔥Forgiving like He forgives

🔥Walking humbly with Him

As Prophet TB Joshua said:

“A humble man is a faithful man, and a faithful man is one who obeys God even when it hurts.”

🙌🏽 2. How Can We Live in a Way That Pleases Him?

“Without faith, it is impossible to please God…”Hebrews 11:6

Pleasing God doesn’t start with outward action. It starts with inward trust.

Faith is the foundation of obedience. Without it, we cannot please God. Faith means trusting God even when we don’t understand. It means surrendering the outcome into His hands.

“Faith is trust in God.” — TB Joshua

Faith means:

  • Trusting God’s Word more than your feelings
  • Obeying Him even when it’s uncomfortable
  • Standing still when He tells you to wait

“Faith is not a feeling. It’s trusting God more than you trust yourself.”

❤️ 3. How Can We Love Him?

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”John 14:15
“You are My friends if you do what I command.”John 15:14

Love is not lip service. Love is proven in obedience. Many say they love God, but live in a way that contradicts His Word. If we truly love Him, our lives must reflect that love through our actions, not just emotions.

God’s definition of love is obedience. Not occasional gestures, but consistent surrender.

Love is not proven in words—it’s lived out in action.

🧺 4. How Can We Serve Him?

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me.”Matthew 25:40

We serve God by serving others— TB Joshua

Serving God is not limited to church roles or spiritual assignments. It means loving people, helping the needy, showing mercy, and living sacrificially. It means doing ordinary things with extraordinary love.

Prophet TB Joshua reminded us:

“The beauty of life does not depend on how happy we are, but on how happy others can be because of us.”

That act of kindness to a stranger, your care for a widow, your prayer for the sick—it’s all service to God.

🧭 Jesus Summarized It Perfectly

“You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.
This is the first and greatest commandment.
A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:37–39

Notice that Jesus didn’t say “with all your strength.”

Why?

Because obedience starts in the heart, not in the hands.

These are not two separate commandments but two sides of the same coin:

  • Loving God fully

  • Loving people deeply

You cannot claim to love God and despise your neighbor. You cannot walk in faith and harbor unforgiveness. God requires the whole counsel of obedience—not partial.

🌱 Why Jesus Mentioned Your Heart, Soul, and Mind (Not Body)

“We can only be like Jesus in our heart, not in our face or body.”

Obedience to God is not physical performance—it is a spiritual posture.

That’s why Jesus didn’t say, “Love God with your body,” but rather:

  • With your heart (the spirit)

  • With your soul (emotions, will, desires)

  • With your mind (thoughts, decisions)

The body is simply the servant of what the spirit commands. The real battle is inward, not outward.

🌱 The Fruits You Need to Fulfill His Command

To do what God requires, you need the fruits of the Spirit:

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”Galatians 5:22–23

Without these, you may do “religious” things but miss the heart of God.

God is not impressed with performance.
He’s moved by fruit.

🙏🏽 The Simple But Powerful Prayer

“LORD, take more of me and give me more of You.”

This is the divine exchange:

  • More of His Spirit
  • More of His wisdom
  • More of His strength to obey

It’s a prayer of surrender that God always answers.

🔥 Final Charge

Child of God, don’t settle for half-hearted devotion.

Don’t settle for partial obedience.

Don’t live by convenience—live by conviction.

God doesn’t just want your service—He wants your surrender.

He wants your obedience, your worship, your love, your trust.

He wants all of you: - Your obedience
- Your worship
- Your love
- Your trust

“We can only be like Jesus in our heart—not in our face or body. We are created in His likeness.”

Surrender everything—because He gave everything for you.
