Humility: The Key to Higher Realms in God
Key Scriptures
“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” — Matthew 23:12
“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.” — Psalm 25:9
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13
The Quiet Strength Behind Greatness
Great men have great habits. But more than discipline or charisma, there is a quieter, deeper strength they all carry—humility.
True humility is not weakness. It is power under control. It is divine authority wrapped in gentleness. And nowhere do we see this more clearly than in the life of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.” — Psalm 25:9
Jesus: The Ultimate Example of Humility with Power
1. He Walked on Water—But Only When Necessary
Jesus walked on water, yet He never used this miracle to impress crowds.
When the disciples first saw Him doing it, they were terrified, thinking He was a ghost (Matthew 14:22–33). Such was the nature of His humility—His power was never for show, only for purpose.
25 About three o’clock in the morning[a] Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”
27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here![b]”
28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”
29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said.
2. He Chose the Boat Over the Supernatural
Jesus could have flown across the sea, disappeared and reappeared, or even walked through air, through walls despite locked doors—but He took the boat with His disciples. But He chose to sleep through storms, ride in boats, and walk patiently among people. His miracles were not displays; they were responses to desperate faith.
John 20:19-29 (NIV)
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
Acts 1:9–12 (NIV)
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
3. He Silenced the Storm—But Only After a Cry for Help
He could calm storms with a whisper. Yet He never did—until His disciples cried out in fear.
“Why are you so afraid?” — Matthew 8:23–27
His humility wouldn’t let Him act unless it was necessary for faith.
4. He Would Have Walked with the Centurion
When the centurion asked for healing, Jesus’ humility was ready to follow him to his house.
But the centurion’s faith released a higher dimension of authority.
“Just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” — Matthew 8:8
— Matthew 8:5–13
Even in healing, Jesus would have preferred to walk to the man’s house—not because He couldn’t speak a word, but because humility never assumes privilege.
5. He Ascended Quietly, Without Spectacle
When Jesus returned to heaven, He did so quietly without fanfare or public display. Only His closest followers witnessed the moment—no crowds, no show, just quiet fulfillment of prophecy and purpose (Acts 1:9–12).
In every moment, Jesus exemplified power governed by humility.
Jesus’ life shows us that the deepest spiritual authority is exercised with the deepest reverence for the will of God.
Spiritual Giants Carried This Same Humility
Paul – “I can do all things…” — but he didn’t elaborate
Apostle Paul, who moved in signs and wonders, didn’t boast. He simply wrote, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). No dramatics. No spiritual bragging.
Paul had likely experienced extraordinary habits, divine transport, and spiritual dimensions—but his humility kept him silent.
Philip – Caught up and transported by the Spirit
“The Spirit of the Lord took Philip away…” — Acts 8:39–40
Philip was transported supernaturally (Acts 8:39–40), but the story is told with simple clarity. Yet there is no boast, no headline. Humility hid the wonder. These encounters weren’t used for self-promotion.
Why?
Because in the realm of the Spirit, humility guards the treasures of heaven.
Prophet TB Joshua – He Wrote in Tongues
He moved in a realm many never saw.
He spoke in tongues—and wrote in tongues. But he never turned it into a stage performance.

Prophet TB Joshua was not just a man of the Word—he was a man of the Spirit. Beyond speaking in tongues, he was known to write in tongues—a rare and sacred gift. Yet, he never built his ministry on this mystery.
Why?
Because, as he often said:
“To the degree we reverence the Spirit of God, to that same degree will He release His power.”
Humility was his signature. And that humility opened portals of spiritual depth that words could never fully explain.
Humility Unlocks Higher Realms of the Spirit
Humility is the access code to spiritual depth. It is the unseen key that opens the doors to wisdom, revelation, and supernatural power. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t strive. It doesn’t need applause.
If you desire to grow in the gifts of the Spirit, cultivate humility:
Spend time in hidden prayer.
Seek God’s face, not man’s praise.
Allow your power to be tested in silence before it is ever displayed in public.
The most powerful people in the kingdom are often the most invisible.
“To the degree we reverence the Spirit of God, to that same degree will He release His power.”
God does not entrust power to the proud. He hides His deeper gifts in the hearts of those who can be trusted with silence.
God entrusts His deepest secrets and strongest gifts to those who will not misuse them. Be humble, and heaven will know your name.
If you want to move in greater power—
Don’t ask for spotlight. Ask for surrender.
Final Word: Humility Is Everything
Many want power. Few want purity.
Many seek anointing. Few seek obedience.
But those who are humble—those who hide themselves in Christ—carry the greatest weight of glory.
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” — James 4:6
Be humble, and heaven will trust you with more.
Takeaway
God entrusts His deepest secrets and strongest gifts to those who will not misuse them.
Be humble—and heaven will know your name.
Reflect
What areas of your life need more humility so God can trust you with more power?
Prayer
Lord, teach me the strength of humility. Let me never seek to display what You’ve given me in secret. Make me a vessel that reveres Your Spirit and guards Your treasures with fear and trembling. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
