Giving Willingly and Freely: The Example of Prophet TB Joshua
The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given willingly and wholeheartedly to the LORD.”
— 1 Chronicles 29:9
At The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), tithes and offerings were never emphasized as an obligation nor compelled from the people. Yet, giving flourished more than in places where pressure and manipulation were used. Why? Because giving was modeled as an act of love, not a religious transaction.
Prophet TB Joshua followed the principle Jesus taught in Matthew 5:17:
“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
He fulfilled this law of giving by teaching and demonstrating its true spirit: not just giving to a church building, but giving to the poor, the needy, the homeless, the rejected—those closest to God’s heart.
A Ministry Fueled by Love, Not Money
Prophet TB Joshua never pressured anyone to give. In fact, he often forgot to ask for offerings during services, completely overtaken by the joy of God’s presence.
The disciples sometimes had to pass him a note to remind him to call for offerings—but even then, it was never coerced.
He fulfilled the law of giving by not merely preaching it, but living it. Giving wasn’t limited to church walls—it extended to the streets, the homes of the poor, the broken, and the forgotten.
His focus was always on people, not on funds. people over profit. Souls over silver.
Crusades Funded by the Church, Not the Crowd
Whether local or international, TB Joshua’s crusades had one thing in common: they were funded by the church, not the people. No offerings were ever collected during crusades.
“Freely you have received; freely give.” — Matthew 10:8
The church covered 95% of the cost, even in foreign countries. This was to ensure the move of the Holyspirit was pure—not hindered by man’s manipulation or greed.
His Life Was a Sermon of Giving
When you met Prophet TB Joshua, publicly or privately, the question was never:
“What do you have to give?”
But always:
“What can I give you?”
He ministered healing without charging a dime. He gave financial support to the wealthy and the poor alike.
He blessed both friends and enemies alike. Even those who later accused and betrayed him were once recipients of his generosity. Those same individuals featured in misleading documentaries like the one by BBC, conveniently left out the part where they received life-changing support from him.
Many biased documentaries omitted the critical truth about Prophet TB Joshua: many who accused him were once recipients of life-changing generosity.
A Heart of Giving Without Bias
Prophet TB Joshua’s generosity was without favoritism. Whether black or white, rich or poor, young or old—he gave with open hands and an open heart.
TB Joshua gave mind-blowingly generous gifts to all.
He gave to the wealthy who weren’t used to being on the receiving end.
He gave to the destitute, who left his presence with hope and joy.
He gave prayer items, cash, and spiritual support with no discrimination.
Many came with suitcases of money expecting to pay for their healing but left with free healing and a financial blessing from the prophet. It brought many to tears.
“But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us.” — 1 Chronicles 29:14
Giving Without Memory or Measure
He often gave to someone one day, and then again the next—not because he forgot, but because his love was fresh every morning.
His workers were often bothered by how much he gave—sometimes giving again the very next day to someone he had already blessed. His giving was new every morning, driven not by calculation but compassion.
That was the spirit of the early church reflected in SCOAN.
“Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the house of my God…” — 1 Chronicles 29:3
The Result? A Willing, Joyful Giving Culture
TB Joshua didn’t need to force people to give:
His life of generosity inspired joyful giving.
The church thrives today under the leadership of Mama Evelyn Joshua because real relationships were built—not financial contracts.
He took care of the people so the Holy Spirit could be Himself in their midst.
Giving to others was like breathing for Prophet TB Joshua.
He conquered money by giving it away.
Through his lifestyle, TB Joshua inspired others to give willingly—not from pressure, but from joy.
SCOAN continues to thrive—not because of financial strategies, but because its foundation was laid in love, generosity, and the move of the Holy Spirit.
Final Thoughts: Give Like Jesus
Let us remember:
- God blesses us to be a blessing to others.
- True giving begins when you don’t remember what you gave.
- Let your giving be from the heart, not from pressure.
- Let your generosity reflect the love and compassion of Christ.
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7
