How to Defeat Your Weakness and Keep Satan Out of Your Life
How to Defeat Your Weaknesses: Developing Godly Habits
Key Scriptures: Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 12:9, Proverbs 4:23, Psalm 119:11, Matthew 5:27-30
The answer is Simple. Develop Habits. Great men simply have great habits.
Weakness is the avenue for the enemy to enter our lives. Without our weaknesses, Satan cannot connect with us. His food is weakness—pride, covetousness, discontentment, talking too much, offense, lustfulness, gluttony, hatred, lying, etc. If you do not have food for Satan to eat, Satan will not come to you.
If you develop habits to defend the weakness of your senses, you will keep satan out of your life and perpetually block him. He might still cause you disappointment here and there (because we are in the world) but that’s only if God permits but he can’t touch your life.
This was the secret of Daniel, Joseph, David, Moses, Prophet TB Joshua etc. They succeeded as great men because they had great habits.
Weakness—The Enemy’s Entry Point
📖 James 1:14-15
“Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
Weakness is Satan’s access point to a person’s life. Without weaknesses, he has no foothold in us. The enemy thrives on weaknesses such as:
Pride
Lust
Discontentment
Talking too much (gossip)
Gluttony
Hatred
Lying
Covetousness
🔥 Truth: If you remove Satan’s food from your life, he will not visit you!
📖 Ephesians 4:27
“Do not give the devil a foothold.”
How do we defeat our weaknesses? By developing godly habits.
1️⃣ Admit Your Weaknesses to God
Acknowledging your weakness is 50% of the battle because Jesus Christ is ready to intervene on your affairs. When you pray, mention your weaknesses to God. Admit your guilt and ask God to help you.
📖 2 Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Acknowledging your weakness is already 50% of the battle won!
The reason many people continue struggling with sin is denial.
When you pray, be honest with God about your weaknesses.
Confess your struggles and ask for strength.
📖 Psalm 51:17
“The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.”
🛐 Prayer:
“Lord, I acknowledge my weaknesses. I cannot overcome them without You. Help me, O Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen!”
2️⃣ Develop Great Habits to Defend Against Weakness
Next step is to develop great habits. By doing this you are closing the door to evil influence in your life. These habits will keep you from error in times of weakness.
📖 Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Weakness cannot be overcome by willpower alone. You must replace sinful habits with godly habits. These habits block the devil’s access to your life.
What Daily Steps can you take to Develop Great Habits
✨ YOUR MIND: Capture Your Thoughts for God
📖 Proverbs 4:23
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Start and end your day with God through meditation and reading the Scriptures.
Do not begin your day with social media, news, or TV.
Gain control of your mind first so that you have spiritual strength (discretion and discernment) to resist temptation.
📖 Psalm 119:11
“I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.”
🔥 Practical Habit: Memorize a Bible verse every morning and meditate on it throughout the day.
✨ YOUR EYES: Choose What You Watch
📖 Matthew 5:27-29
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away.”
Replace movie/trending video time with Christian programs that keep you away from sin. Hardly any movies today lack sex or kissing scenes, or foul language. Since you cannot influence what is in movies, you have the power to choose what you watch. Matthew 5:27–29, Proverbs 4:23
Avoid movies, social media content, or websites that stir lust or ungodliness.
Replace worldly entertainment with Christian teachings, sermons, and worship programs.
Protect your spiritual eyes by choosing what you focus on.
📖 Proverbs 4:25
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.”
🔥 Practical Habit: Limit social media and replace screen time with Christian resources. You can read GOSW blog articles to develop your faith in God.
✨ YOUR EARS: Control What You Listen To
📖 Romans 10:17
“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
The music, news, and conversations you listen to shape your thoughts.
Avoid gossip, secular music, and corrupt talk.
Fill your spirit with worship songs, Bible teachings, and faith-filled messages.
📖 Proverbs 4:23
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”
🔥 Practical Habit: Create a worship playlist and listen to it daily.
✨ YOUR TONGUE: Speak Words that Build
📖 Proverbs 10:19
“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.”
Avoid gossip, complaining, and careless talk.
Speak only words that build others up and glorify God.
If a conversation is not worth meditating on, it is not worth speaking about.
📖 Ephesians 4:29
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.”
🔥 Practical Habit: Before speaking, ask yourself: “Would Jesus say this?”
✨ YOUR TOUCH: Avoid Sinful Environments
📖 Matthew 5:30
“If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.”
Stay away from environments that lead to sin.
Do not visit places that tempt you to compromise your faith.
If you struggle with alcohol, do not hang out in bars.
If you struggle with lust, avoid clubs or compromising relationships.
📖 1 Corinthians 15:33
“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’”
🔥 Practical Habit: Write a list of places you must avoid and be disciplined about it.
3️⃣ Key Takeaway: Build a Habit Wall Against Satan
If you develop strong habits to guard your senses, Satan will have no access to your life. He might cause disappointments here and there (because we live in a fallen world), but he will have no power over you.
🔥 This was the secret of:
Daniel (Daniel 6:10) – He prayed daily and refused to defile himself.
Joseph (Genesis 39:7-9) – He ran from sin and refused to be tempted.
David (Psalm 63:6) – He meditated on God’s Word daily.
Moses (Exodus 33:11) – He spent time in God’s presence consistently.
Prophet TB Joshua – He lived by discipline and godly habits.
📖 Galatians 5:16
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Final Words of Encouragement
Acknowledge your weaknesses before God.
Build strong habits that defend against sin.
Guard your mind, eyes, ears, tongue, and actions.
Fill your life with God’s Word, prayer, and worship.
Be consistent and disciplined in your daily walk with Christ.
🌟 DECLARATION:
“Lord, I submit my weaknesses to You. Strengthen me to build godly habits and close every door to sin in my life. Help me to walk in holiness daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”
