Faith or Fear: No Neutral Ground in the Spiritual Life

If you have no faith then you have fear. Science teaches you that there is something called vacuum or empty space that’s because scientists base their conclusions on what is seen— a world of sight. When it comes to faith, there is no vacuum or emptiness. Faith doesn’t work by sight. There is no neutrality or neutral kingdom. It’s either you belong to God or satan. You cannot be good and evil at the same time. As a Christian when your mind sleeps, it is immediately occupied with negative thoughts. There is no state of flux for a Christian. You are to be in control of your mind always. As a Christian, when our mind sleeps, that is when we begin to think negatively. Each time you think negative thoughts; you must know that your mind is sleeping. Anytime your mind sleeps, you think negative thoughts, then satan takes an opportunity to attack you. Our mind is the watchman.
Faith and Fear Cannot Coexist
In the natural world, science describes empty spaces or vacuum states—areas that seem unoccupied. However, in the spiritual realm, there is no emptiness. There is no such thing as a neutral ground.
You are either ruled by faith or by fear.
You are either in God’s Kingdom or in satan’s kingdom.
You cannot be good and evil at the same time (Matthew 6:24).
📖 2 Corinthians 5:7
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Faith does not work by sight—it operates in the unseen realm. This is why when a Christian allows fear or doubt into their heart, they unknowingly give room for satan to attack.
The Watchman of Your Soul: Your Mind
Your mind is the watchman of your spirit. Just as a security guard watches over a house, your mind is supposed to be spiritually alert. However, when your mind sleeps, it becomes vulnerable to enemy attacks.
📖 1 Peter 5:8
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
How Does Your Mind Sleep?
Neglecting the Word of God
When you stop reading your Bible with devotion, your mind becomes spiritually weak.
Your faith starts to decline because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
Not Meditating on Scripture
If you don’t meditate on the Word, your mind loses focus.
Joshua 1:8 says, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night.”
Lack of Constant Prayer
A break in faith is a break in prayer.
Jesus commanded in Matthew 26:41:
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
📖 Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
By focusing on God’s truth, we guard our minds against negative influences.
Signs That Your Mind Is Spiritually Asleep
Frequent Negative Thoughts
When your mind is idle, negative thoughts flood in.
Fear, anxiety, doubt, and worry dominate your thinking.
Falling into Sin Easily
When your mind is asleep, sin becomes easier to commit.
Your spiritual defenses weaken, and you slip into bad habits.
Spiritual Attacks in Dreams
If you constantly have disturbing dreams (such as sexual encounters, nightmares, or demonic oppression), it may be a sign that your spiritual defenses are weak.
Satan takes advantage of a sleeping mind to manipulate your thoughts and emotions.
Lack of Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit
When your mind is asleep, you lose spiritual discernment.
You don’t recognize satan’s traps or how he operates.
📖 Ephesians 6:12
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Satan is subtle and deceptive—he looks for weak spots in your spiritual life to strike.
How to Keep Your Mind Spiritually Awake
1. Watch and Pray Without Ceasing
📖 Luke 21:36
“Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen.”
Prayer keeps your mind active and connected to God.
Do not assume when or how satan will attack—stay spiritually alert at all times.
2. Constantly Meditate on the Word of God
📖 Psalm 1:2-3
“But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
Meditate on God’s Word daily to renew your mind (Romans 12:2).
The more the Word fills your heart, the less room satan has to attack.
3. Speak and Declare God’s Promises
📖 2 Corinthians 10:5
“We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
When negative thoughts arise, counter them with God’s promises.
Say aloud:
“I have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16).
“No weapon formed against me shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).
4. Avoid Spiritual Breaks
Satan looks for spiritual gaps where he can enter.
Never stop praying, reading, or meditating on God’s Word.
TB Joshua taught: “A break in faith is a break in prayer. A break in prayer is a break with God.”
Final Words: Stay Watchful and Alert

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
The Christian life is a battlefield, not a playground. We must always be on guard because satan does not take breaks.
Let us stay watchful through prayer, keep our minds awake through the Word, and fight fear with faith.
