ANYTHING THAT COMES BY FORCE IS NOT FAITH

Faith operates on the principle of free will. Anything done out of compulsion, obligation, or force cannot be classified as faith. As TB Joshua wisely states, “Anything that comes by force is not faith.” Faith must arise from a heart convicted and transformed by the Spirit of God, not from external pressure or human manipulation.

Faith: A Willing Response to God’s Call

Key Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 9:7, Romans 10:17, Matthew 6:33, John 6:26-27

Faith Is Not Forced—It Is a Choice Made Willingly

Faith operates on the principle of free will. Anything done out of compulsion, obligation, or force cannot be classified as faith. As TB Joshua wisely states, “Anything that comes by force is not faith.” Faith must arise from a heart convicted and transformed by the Spirit of God, not from external pressure or human manipulation.

Faith Is a Relationship, Not a Transaction

  • If People Come for Miracles Alone: When people are drawn to God’s work simply for signs and wonders, their faith will waver when challenges come. Jesus Himself said in John 6:26-27, “You are looking for me not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life.”
Miracles are important, but the foundation of our faith should be based on a desire for salvation, not temporary blessings.

  • Giving Must Be from the Heart: 2 Corinthians 9:7 teaches us, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”. Tithes and offerings should flow from a willing heart, not a sense of duty or pressure. If given begrudgingly, they cease to glorify God.

Faith Requires Personal Revelation, Not Imitation

  1. Speaking in Tongues: Forcing people to speak in tongues or mimic others is not faith; it’s imitation. Genuine spiritual gifts are a result of the Holy Spirit’s presence and cannot be manufactured. Without personal conviction and transformation, these outward acts lack power.

  2. Faith Must Be Rooted in the Word: Romans 10:17 reminds us, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” When people encounter God’s Word and allow it to take root in their hearts, their faith grows authentically, producing real fruit.

The Dangers of Forced Faith

  1. It Breeds Resentment: When actions like tithing, prayer, or church attendance are forced, they may lead to bitterness. People start seeing God as a transactional figure—someone they “pay” in return for blessings.

  2. It Produces a Shallow Commitment: Forced faith cannot withstand trials. The moment difficulties arise or miracles cease, people abandon their faith because it was never grounded in a genuine relationship with God.

  3. It Creates Hypocrisy: Those who outwardly conform to religious acts without inward transformation often live double lives. Matthew 23:28 warns against this: “On the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.”

How to Build Genuine Faith

  1. Teach the Word of God: Allow people to encounter the truth of Scripture. When the Word is sown into their hearts, the Holy Spirit will convict and transform them.

  2. Focus on Relationship: Encourage people to develop a personal relationship with Jesus. When they experience His love, their faith will naturally grow.

  3. Lead by Example: Just as Prophet TB Joshua did, let your life be a sermon. Your love, humility, and obedience to God will inspire others to seek Him willingly.

  4. Pray for the Spirit’s Guidance: Pray that the Holy Spirit touches hearts and opens eyes to the truth. Zechariah 4:6 reminds us, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty.

Conclusion: Faith That Endures

True faith cannot be forced—it must be a personal conviction born of an encounter with God. Jesus calls us into a relationship, not into obligations. Let us strive to encourage others to seek God willingly, focusing not on outward acts but on the transformation of the heart.

“Lord Jesus, teach me to serve You with a willing and humble heart. May my faith in You grow deeper each day, rooted in love and trust. Amen.”
