Never Force Anyone to Believe in God
Never Force Anyone to Believe in God
Key Verses: Matthew 7:24–27, John 6:44
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them…” – John 6:44
“Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” – Matthew 7:24
Faith is a Matter of the Heart
Knowing God and loving Him must come from within. Salvation cannot be forced or coerced—it must be rooted in a personal revelation of God. When you try to force someone to believe or attend church, you risk creating a shallow, external faith that lacks genuine transformation.
Prophet T.B. Joshua reminds us:
“Sin easily hides where there is no heat of trial.”
This means that when someone’s faith is not built on a genuine foundation, it collapses the moment trials, temptations, or difficulties come.
Why Forcing Faith Fails
Salvation Is God’s Work, Not Yours
John 6:44: “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them.”
You can share the Gospel, but only the Holy Spirit can convict someone of sin and lead them to repentance (John 16:8).
External Pressure Creates Pretenders
When people are forced into a faith decision—whether through financial pressure, emotional manipulation, or social expectations—they may comply outwardly but remain unchanged inwardly.
As soon as the “incentive” (e.g., money, relationships, or position) is gone, their faith may wither like a seed planted on rocky ground (Matthew 13:20–21).
Faith Without Understanding Is Unsustainable
If someone accepts Jesus without truly understanding what it means to follow Him, their foundation will be weak.
Jesus warns in Matthew 7:26–27 about the dangers of building a house (faith) on sand: when storms (trials) come, it will collapse.
Faith Must Be Rooted in Revelation
Genuine faith is born out of a personal revelation of God’s love, power, and truth. When God reveals Himself to someone, their faith is unshakable because it is based on a personal encounter, not external pressure.
Characteristics of Genuine Faith
Rooted in God’s Word: “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
Tested by Trials: Trials refine faith, proving its authenticity (1 Peter 1:6–7).
Driven by Love: True faith works through love, not fear or coercion (Galatians 5:6).
How to Lead Others to Faith Without Forcing Them
Pray for Revelation
Instead of trying to convince someone to believe, pray that God would reveal His truth to them.
Ephesians 1:17: “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.”
Be an Example of Christ’s Love
Your life should reflect the love, peace, and joy of Christ. This is the most powerful testimony of faith.
Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Share the Gospel, But Don’t Pressure
Share the Good News with gentleness and respect, allowing the Holy Spirit to do the rest.
1 Peter 3:15: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
Allow God to Work in His Time
Trust God’s timing. Some seeds take time to grow. Don’t rush the process.
Ecclesiastes 3:1: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
Support, Don’t Control
- Offer guidance and support, but let individuals make their own decisions. Faith is personal and cannot be dictated.
The Parable of the Two Builders (Matthew 7:24–27)
Jesus compares two types of people:
The Wise Builder:
Builds his house (faith) on the solid rock of Jesus’ teachings.
When storms (trials) come, the house stands firm because it has a strong foundation.
This represents a life rooted in obedience to God’s Word.
The Foolish Builder:
Builds his house (faith) on sand (worldly foundations, superficial belief).
When storms come, the house collapses.
This represents a life of disobedience and shallow faith.
The lesson is clear: faith must be built on a solid foundation of genuine belief and obedience to Christ.
A Warning About Superficial Faith
Matthew 7:21–23:
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name and in Your name drive out demons and in Your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from Me, you evildoers!’”
This sobering passage reminds us that actions and words are meaningless without a true relationship with Jesus. Faith must come from the heart, not from external pressures or performances.
A Prayer for Genuine Salvation
“Lord Jesus, I pray for those who do not yet know You. Reveal Yourself to them in a way that is personal and undeniable. Open their hearts to Your truth and let their faith be built on the solid rock of Your Word. Help me to be an example of Your love and to share the Gospel with humility and respect. Let their salvation be genuine, rooted in a relationship with You, and guided by the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Reflection
Are you trying to force faith on others, or are you relying on God to do the work of transformation?
Is your own faith built on the solid rock of Jesus’ teachings, or is it shallow and easily shaken?
How can you better reflect Christ’s love to those who do not yet believe?
Remember: Salvation is God’s work, and it must be rooted in the heart. Trust Him to bring people to Himself in His perfect time. God bless you!
