🌿 Are You Worshipping Jesus Christ in Truth and in Spirit?
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” — John 4:24 (NIV)
Jesus said this to a woman at a well in Samaria who wanted to argue about the right mountain to worship on. He redirected her entirely — worship was never going to be about location, ritual, or heritage. It would be about spirit and truth: a heart genuinely surrendered, meeting a God who is Himself spirit.
That question didn’t end with the woman at the well. It’s still the question every believer has to answer.
📖 What Doesn’t Guarantee You Know Him
Prophet TB Joshua taught a hard truth many avoid:
“Those who would come to God must do so with humility and sincerity of mind and not confession in the form of fasting and praying or waving hands in worship without a thorough reformation of heart and life.” — Prophet TB Joshua
Without that reformation of heart and mind, plenty of religious activity becomes unnecessary weight rather than genuine worship:
- Reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation four or five times a year
- Being a member of a particular church
- Bearing a Christian name, or being buried under Christian rites
- Speaking in tongues more fluently than anyone else in the room
None of it, on its own, means you will enter heaven. Jesus was explicit about this:
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name, and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’” — Matthew 7:21–23 (NLT)
Notice what’s on that list: prophecy, deliverance ministry, miracles — the most visible, most celebrated forms of Christian service. And Jesus still says I never knew you. Gifting and activity were never the qualifier. Relationship was.
🔥 Sincerity Over Performance
The word that stands out in TB Joshua’s teaching is sincerity. Not intensity. Not volume. Not how long the hands stay raised or how loudly the tongues flow. God is not evaluating the performance — He is reading the heart behind it.
“God delivers His faithful servants out of trouble and puts honour upon them, and He is not far from those who worship Him in truth and in faith.” — Prophet TB Joshua
That nearness is the whole point. True worship isn’t a transaction that earns a reward from a distant God. It’s what draws a God who is spirit close enough to be found by a heart that is honestly seeking Him — not performing for Him.
🧭 So, Are You Worshipping in Truth and in Spirit?
Ask yourself honestly:
- Is my Bible reading building a relationship, or just building a habit I can point to?
- Does my church membership reflect genuine devotion, or just belonging?
- Has my heart actually been reformed, or has my vocabulary just become more Christian?
- When I lift my hands or speak in tongues, is my heart sincere, or is my performance louder than my surrender?
Jesus is not looking for people who can quote the most verses or perform the most visible gifts. He is looking for people He actually knows — because they have actually known Him.

Lord Jesus, search my heart and show me where my worship has become performance instead of surrender. Give me the humility and sincerity of mind that You are looking for. Let there be a real reformation in my heart and life, not just religious activity on the outside. I want to be known by You, not just active for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
