Laying of Hands
Laying of hands is for reshaping destiny
1Timothy 5:22, Romans 1:12, Mark 6: 4-5, Matthew 9:13
The Power and Purpose of the Laying on of Hands
The laying on of hands is not merely a symbolic act; it is a spiritual process designed for reshaping destinies, imparting encouragement, endowment, and establishment in a believer’s life. It is through this act, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that God’s anointing flows to break yokes, heal the sick, deliver the bound, and impart blessings.
Why You Need the Right Touch
“You need a touch on your head, and I need a touch on my head, but we must seek the right touch.”
Not every touch carries the anointing of God. The Bible warns us to be cautious about who lays hands on our heads because the head represents one’s crown, destiny, and purpose. When the wrong person lays hands on you, they can impart problems instead of blessings, transferring their iniquities or spiritual burdens.
Romans 1:12 emphasizes that the laying on of hands is for reshaping destinies and for imparting encouragement. However, it must come from someone anointed by God. If the one laying hands on you is spiritually lower than you or not walking in purity, you risk losing your spiritual crown or destiny
The Importance of Discernment
As a believer, it is your duty to pray for discernment before anyone lays hands on you.
Ask God, “Who is this man or woman praying for me?”
Ensure that the person laying hands on you is a true servant of God, walking in holiness, and anointed by the Holy Spirit.
When a true and anointed man of God lays hands on you, the anointing in him will break the yokes in your life and meet your needs according to God’s will. Mark 6:4-5 shows that even Christ was limited in His ability to perform miracles in His hometown because of the people’s lack of faith. This demonstrates that both the one laying hands and the one receiving prayer must be aligned with God’s Spirit.
Laying on of Hands Should Come by Revelation
The laying on of hands should not be done casually or out of routine. It must come by revelation from God.
A Biblical Example: Saul and Ananias (Acts 9:10–12)
Saul (later Apostle Paul) was struck blind after his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. As he prayed, God gave him a vision of Ananias coming to lay hands on him so he could regain his sight. At the same time, God revealed to Ananias that he was to pray for Saul. This example teaches us that laying on of hands is a divine appointment. Both Saul and Ananias received confirmation from God before the act took place. It was not random but orchestrated by God to ensure that His will was fulfilled and His glory revealed.
Healing Requires Earthly Consummation
Sometimes, God reveals healing or deliverance to a sick person in a dream, yet the person wakes up still sick. This is because God often requires a true servant of His to consummate the healing in the physical realm. The laying on of hands becomes the bridge between what has already been released in the spirit and its manifestation on earth.
Caution for Ministers of God
1 Timothy 5:22 warns:
“Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, nor take part in the sins of others; keep yourself pure.”
As a minister of God, you must examine yourself before laying hands on others. Laying hands without being led by the Holy Spirit can cause you to share in the spiritual problems of those you are praying for. Many ministers face challenges such as addictions, lust, anger, and spiritual dryness because they laid hands on people without being in right standing with God.
Jesus: Our Ultimate Example
Even Jesus did not act hastily when it came to prayer and healing.
- In John 11:3-5, when Mary and Martha sent for Jesus because their brother Lazarus was sick, Jesus did not rush to lay hands on him. Instead, He waited for the Father’s timing. By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus had already died and was buried. This delay was intentional so that the greater glory of God could be revealed when Lazarus was resurrected.
This teaches us that God’s timing and guidance are critical in every spiritual act. Ministers should always be led by the Holy Spirit before laying hands on others.
The Dangers of Receiving the Wrong Touch
The head represents your crown, destiny, and authority. Be cautious about who you allow to lay hands on your head.
Loss of Destiny
If someone spiritually inferior or impure lays hands on you, it can hinder your progress or destiny. For example, a person’s anointing may be diminished or blocked because of receiving the wrong touch.Spiritual Transference
Laying on of hands can transfer spiritual burdens or problems. Just as blessings can be imparted, curses or sinful spirits can also be imparted when the person praying for you is not pure or walking with God.Disobedience to God’s Guidance
Receiving prayer from someone not appointed by God for your situation can create more harm than good. Pray and seek confirmation from God before submitting yourself for prayer.
Guidelines for the Laying on of Hands
For Believers
Always pray for discernment before receiving prayer.
Seek confirmation from God about the person praying for you.
Understand that the laying on of hands is not the source of healing, deliverance, or blessing. It is the Spirit of God who does the work; the laying on of hands is only a conduit.
For Ministers
Examine yourself before laying hands on anyone. Ensure that you are pure before God and led by the Holy Spirit.
Do not rush to lay hands on people. Follow the timing and leading of the Spirit.
Protect yourself spiritually by walking in holiness and maintaining your relationship with God.
When and Why Laying on of Hands Happens
The laying on of hands happens to:
Reshape Destinies
It aligns individuals with God’s purpose for their lives.Impart Encouragement and Blessing
Through anointed touch, individuals are strengthened and encouraged in their faith.Deliver Healing and Deliverance
The laying on of hands becomes a physical act that releases spiritual power, enabling healing and deliverance.
The Glory Belongs to God Alone
When healing or deliverance happens through the laying on of hands, it is essential to give the glory to God. This act is not about glorifying the minister or the recipient; it is about glorifying Jesus Christ, who is the source of all power and authority.
Final Thoughts: A Life of Discernment and Submission
As believers, we must approach the laying on of hands with reverence, caution, and discernment. Whether you are receiving prayer or praying for others, ensure that every act is guided by the Holy Spirit and done in God’s timing.
God works through His servants, but He must always remain the source of healing, deliverance, and reshaped destinies. Take every step in prayer, asking for guidance and clarity, and trust that God is working out His plans in His perfect time.
Always remember: Laying on of hands is for reshaping destinies, but it must come with the right touch and by divine revelation.
