THE DANGER OF ‘WHAT IF?’
THE DANGER OF “WHAT IF?”
Ecclesiastes 1:2, Psalm 55:22, Phillipians 4:6-7, Phillipians 4:19, Romans 8:28
Examples of “What If” Worries:
What if things never get better?
What if I lose my job?
What if I can’t pay my bills?
What if I never marry?
Why “What If” is Dangerous
💭 Anxiety increases the size of your problem in your mind, making it appear bigger than it really is.
💭 Anxiety changes your focus and weakens your determination to trust God.
💭 Anxiety is a thief of faith and hope, robbing you of the confidence that God is in control.
💭 When you’re anxious, your spirit becomes bound and burdened. This blocks your connection with God, because when your spirit is not free, it cannot be sensitive to or attract the Spirit of God.
Satan’s Trap: Broken Focus
Looking at life’s storms and adversities from a natural point of view is a trap set by Satan. His goal is to break your focus off God and redirect it to your fears, worries, and doubts.
💬 Broken focus is the real reason many fail.
When you focus on the size of the storm, you lose sight of the One who calms the storm.
When you focus on your “What Ifs,” you lose sight of God’s promises.
Pause and Reflect:
❔ What does anxiety truly accomplish?
Every day, you grow older and closer to the grave. At the grave, everything stops: success, worry, position, wealth—all of it is vanity.
💭 “Vanity upon vanity; all is vanity.” — Ecclesiastes 1:2
Why let fear, doubt, and anxiety control your limited time on Earth?
What Should You Do When Anxiety Strikes?
👉 Don’t run from God; RUN TO HIM!
He alone gives peace of heart.
He alone offers freedom from fear.
He alone provides liberty from anxiety.
Actionable Steps to Overcome Anxiety:
1️⃣ Pray Immediately – Don’t wait for anxiety to consume you. Talk to God right away.
2️⃣ Meditate on His Promises – Focus on scriptures like Philippians 4:6–7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
3️⃣ Worship Through the Worry – Sing songs of praise to shift your focus from fear to faith.
4️⃣ Take Each Day at a Time – Focus on what you can do today, trusting God for tomorrow.
5️⃣ Replace “What If” with Faith Statements:
Instead of “What if I lose my job?” say, “God will supply all my needs according to His riches in glory” (Philippians 4:19).
Instead of “What if things don’t improve?” say, “God is working all things together for my good” (Romans 8:28).
Prayer:
🙏 Lord Jesus, I cast my cares upon You. Replace my “What Ifs” with confidence in Your Word. Fill my heart with peace, and help me to trust You in all circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
FINAL REMINDER:
When fear, doubt, and anxiety come with their choking hands, don’t run from God. Run to Him! He is your peace in the storm, your calm in the chaos, and your rest in uncertainty.
