Why Are You Often Tempted to Share Your Plans With Others?
Nehemiah 2:12, Psalm 12:2, Proverbs 13:3
The Danger of Sharing Your Plans Too Soon
Nehemiah 2:12 says:
“I slipped out during the night, taking only a few others with me. I had not told anyone about the plans God had put in my heart.”
Many of us have a habit of sharing our plans too quickly—whether out of excitement, the need for validation, or a desire for encouragement. But as T.B. Joshua wisely taught:
“As true Christians, we must keep our mystery. Be careful, the success you are looking for attracts enemies.”
When you reveal God’s plans for your life prematurely, you risk exposing those plans to spiritual opposition or even sabotage.
Why Should You Keep Your Plans Between You and God?
Your Adversaries Want to Know Your Plans
The enemy works through people and circumstances to hinder God’s blessings in your life. When you prematurely share your plans, you give the enemy a foothold to attack or interfere.
Proverbs 13:3:
“Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.”
You Cannot See People’s Hearts
Psalm 12:2 warns us:
“Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts.”Not everyone who listens to you has good intentions. While some may genuinely rejoice with you, others may secretly envy or resent your plans.
Premature Sharing Attracts Spiritual Battles
- Success attracts opposition, and when you share your plans too soon, you may provoke unnecessary battles before the plan has even been established.
Blessings Can Be Stolen in Their Infancy
- Just like a seedling is vulnerable when it is first planted, so too are your plans when they are still in the early stages. Premature exposure can cause those plans to be stolen, hindered, or destroyed.
Examples of Premature Sharing
Here are some common examples of sharing too soon. Can you relate?
💥 “Hey, I just applied for my visa to the UK. I’m believing God for success!”
💥 “He just proposed to me; very soon, we’ll get married!”
💥 “I’m in the final stage of my job interview. My level is about to change!”
At first, the responses may sound encouraging:
“God will do it for you o. I tap into your blessing.”
But remember, you cannot see their heart. Not everyone clapping for you is truly happy for you.
What Should You Do Instead?
Focus on the Plan With God
- Keep your plans between you and God until they are fully established. Pray, meditate on His Word, and ask for His guidance every step of the way.
Be Patient and Wait for Completion
- Share your testimony after the plan has been fulfilled, when it is too late for the enemy to interfere.
Ask for Discernment
- Pray for the Holy Spirit to give you discernment about whom to share your plans with. Sometimes, God may allow you to involve a trusted person for guidance or support, but always consult Him first.
Guard Your Words
Proverbs 21:23:
“Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.”Not every detail needs to be shared, even with close friends or family.
Trust God Fully
- Depend on God for your success, not the validation or approval of others. Remember, He is the one who fulfills His promises in your life.
A Biblical Example: Nehemiah’s Wisdom
Nehemiah is an excellent example of someone who guarded God’s plan until the right time.
When God put it in his heart to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls, he did not share the plan with anyone at first.
He waited until the right moment to reveal the vision and moved in obedience with God.
His wisdom and patience allowed him to complete the task successfully despite opposition.
Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
“Lord Jesus, thank You for the plans You have placed in my heart. Teach me to be wise and discerning with my words. Help me to focus on Your guidance and timing rather than seeking validation from others. Guard my plans from the enemy and strengthen me to trust in You completely. I know that the success You bring will be established in Your perfect time. Thank You, Lord, for Your protection and provision. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
