Success Is a Test of Faith
When we ask God for success, we rarely think about the dangers that come with it. Success can bring distractions, temptations, and misplaced priorities. Without faith and a proper understanding of God’s purpose for blessings, success can become a trap that pulls us away from the Giver of the blessing.
Faith is not a panic button pushed only when in trouble. Fait is a lifestyle of trusting God, in both good and hard times
1 John 2:15-16:
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.”
Why Success Can Be Dangerous
1. We Forget the Giver of the Blessing
When we are in need, we often promise God so much, but once our needs are met, we become too busy with worldly commitments to serve Him.
Deuteronomy 8:10-14 warns us not to forget God when we prosper:
“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God.”
2. We Focus on the Gift Instead of the Giver
The enemy of our soul wants us to focus on the blessing rather than the Blesser because this is how he steals our salvation.
Luke 12:15:
“Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
3. We Fail to Maintain the Blessing
Many of us are asking God for what we have received before but failed to maintain.
Without faith, we cannot handle the blessings of God. Faith is not just needed in trouble; it is needed to maintain blessings.
4. Success Becomes the End, Not the Means
To a man of faith, blessings are a means to an end—salvation of the soul.
To a man without faith, blessings are the end itself. He says, “I have arrived,” and begins to drift away from God.
How to Handle Success Wisely
1. Remember That Blessings Are a Test
Blessings test your faith, priorities, and character.
Will you remain humble, grateful, and obedient to God when you prosper?
2. Prioritize Your Spiritual Life
- The first place we are to prosper is in our spiritual life. Matthew 6:33:
“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
3. Stay Connected to the Giver
Do not let the blessings distract you from your relationship with God.
Deuteronomy 8:18:
“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”
4. Use Blessings for God’s Glory
Every blessing has a purpose. Use your resources, influence, and time to serve God and bless others.
2 Corinthians 9:8:
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
5. Exercise Faith to Maintain the Blessing
Faith is not just for times of trouble; it is needed to sustain and grow the blessings God gives.
Philippians 4:12-13:
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation… I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”
Practical Steps to Maintain Your Faith in Success
Give Thanks Daily
Acknowledge God as the source of your success.
1 Thessalonians 5:18:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Stay Humble
- Never let success make you prideful. Recognize that all you have is by God’s grace.
Stay in God’s Word
- Meditate on Scripture to keep your priorities aligned with God’s will.
Serve Others
- Use your blessings to meet the needs of others and advance God’s kingdom.
Pray for Guidance
- Constantly ask God for wisdom to handle your blessings in a way that pleases Him.
A Prayer to Handle Success Wisely
“Lord Jesus, I thank You for every blessing You have given me. Forgive me for the times I’ve focused on the gift instead of the Giver. Help me to handle success with humility, gratitude, and faith. Teach me to use my blessings to glorify You and serve others. Strengthen my spiritual life so that I remain connected to You, no matter how much I prosper. Let every blessing I receive draw me closer to You and prepare me for eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Final Encouragement
Success is not the end; it is a means to an end—the salvation of your soul.
Remember, faith is needed to maintain blessings just as much as it is needed in times of trouble.
