God Honours His Word Above His Name
🌿 God Honours His Word Above His Name
“I will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.”
— Psalm 138:2 (NKJV)
Many Christians call on the name of Jesus but see no results. Why?
Because God honours His Word above His name.
The name “Jesus” is not a magic formula. It is not an incantation. It is a spiritual authority that functions only within the boundaries of His Word and by the power of His Spirit.
Prophet TB Joshua taught:
“God will withhold the phenomena of signs and wonders from the church until the Word of God is immersed with His Spirit.”
This is why the same name that brings healing, deliverance, and miracles through one person, may have no effect in the hands of another. It is not just about calling the name; it is about carrying the Word that gives the name life in your mouth.
✝️ Before the Name of Jesus Was Revealed
Even before Jesus’ name was given to men, God worked through His Word and Spirit.
This shows us a key truth:
Before the name, God worked through the Word and the Spirit.
Moses received the Word on the mountain — divine instructions.
Aaron, his prophetic companion, spoke and acted under the same anointing.
The Spirit performed the miracles — turning water to blood, calling down plagues, dividing the sea.
The authority wasn’t in a name they shouted—
It was in the God who sent them,
the Word they obeyed,
and the Spirit who moved through them.
🔥 The Commissioning of the Name of Jesus
“At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow…” — Philippians 2:10
“In My name they will cast out demons…” — Mark 16:17
The right to use the name of Jesus didn’t come until after His death, resurrection, and ascension. It was a heavenly privilege reserved for those in relationship with Him through the new covenant.
“No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit.”
— 1 Corinthians 12:3
To use the name Jesus with power, you must be filled with the Spirit of Jesus and grounded in the Word of God.
The Word gives you identity.
The Spirit gives you access.
And the name gives you authority.
Jesus said:
“Not everyone who calls me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” — Matthew 7:21
To do God’s will is to know and obey His Word.
Jesus gave this right to those who:
Knew Him personally
Were filled with His Word
Were led by His Spirit
Note: Jesus advised His disciples in Acts 1:4 “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift He promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit”
Jesus already commissioned His Disciples to use the name Jesus but He knew the name can only be used with the help of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit illuminates the Spoken word of God on our lips.
There is power in our mouth, the belief in our heart is released by faith out of our mouth” - TB Joshua
🌟 Peter Didn’t Just Use the Name—He Carried the Presence
“Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
— Acts 3:6
Notice Peter didn’t say what he knew, he said what he had.
He had authority in the name because he had the Word and the Spirit.
He had a relationship with Jesus.
He was authorized to bring Jesus to the scene.
You cannot carry divine authority without first carrying divine presence.
🌿 Anyone Can Call the Name, But Not Everyone Can Bring Jesus to the Scene
Many call the name “Jesus,” but few bring His presence.
You can say the name a thousand times, but unless you speak it from a place of covenant and revelation, nothing will happen.
❗ The Sons of Sceva Tried It — And Failed
In Acts 19:13–16, the seven sons of Sceva tried to cast out demons using the name of Jesus that Paul preached.
The demon responded:
“Jesus I know, and Paul I know—but who are you?”
And then attacked them violently.
Why?
Because they had no relationship with Jesus, no Word in their hearts, and no Spirit upon their lips. They had borrowed faith, not born-again authority. They were humiliated because the spiritual realm does not respond to borrowed authority.
🌿 The Word + Spirit = Power
“He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.” — Psalm 107:20
God does nothing without His Word.
Even in Genesis, creation began with the spoken Word:
“Let there be light.”
The name of Jesus works through the Word and by the Spirit.
You cannot separate the name of Jesus from the Word of God.
To walk in the authority of His name, you must be deeply rooted in the Word that defines His will and the Spirit that empowers it.
🔥 Prophet TB Joshua Said:
“To the degree you reverence God’s Word in your heart,
to that same degree His Spirit will release His power through you.”
It is the Word you live by, not just the Scriptures you quote,
that gives life to your prayers and power to your declarations.
🔑 Key Takeaway: The Name Requires Identity, Word, and Spirit
Whether Moses, Elijah, Peter, or Paul—the pattern is consistent:
- God reveals Himself through His Word
- He empowers His Servant through His Spirit
- He confirms His presence with signs and wonders
- And now, through Jesus, He authorizes the use of His name
But the name is reserved for those whose identity is known in heaven.
“Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
— Luke 10:20
✝️ Final Charge
Before you shout “In Jesus’ name!” ask yourself:
- Do I know Him?
- Is His Word dwelling richly in me?
- Am I led by His Spirit?
- Am I known in heaven?
Because God still sends those He has chosen.
- He still gives them His Word.
- He still empowers them by His Spirit.
- He still works through those who bear His identity and reverence His name in reverence.
Don’t just say the name Jesus—carry it.
Don’t just know about the Word—live it.
Don’t just call on Jesus—be known by Him.
“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly…” — Colossians 3:16
“Be filled with the Spirit…” — Ephesians 5:18
“Abide in Me, and I in you…” — John 15:4
🙏 Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
Teach me to love Your Word and honour Your name.
Let Your Spirit fill me and lead me.
May I never speak Your name in vain,
But walk in deep relationship with You through Your Word and by Your Spirit.
Let the authority of Your name be revealed in my life.
In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
