Figure 1: What Is the Name God Calls You? - SpiritWorshipGen

🌿 Before You Were Formed, You Were Known

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” — Jeremiah 1:5

In this world, you are known by many names. Some are given by your earthly parents, some earned through achievements, and others spoken by those around you. But there is a name that predates them all—a name spoken by God before you ever breathed your first breath.

One name introduces you to the world. The other announces you to Heaven.

🔥 Two Names, Two Realities

There are two names every human being carries:
1️⃣ The earthly name given by your parents at birth.
2️⃣ The divine name given by God before you were born.

The first identifies you before men.
The second identifies you before Heaven.

The first connects you to your family lineage.
The second connects you to your divine assignment.

Many people live their entire lives answering to the first name — the one their parents gave — but never discover the second name — the one God spoke before time began.

Until you know the name Heaven calls you, you cannot fully walk in your divine destiny.
Your true name is a key to your purpose

🌿 The Root of Purpose Is Hidden in Your Name

When God calls a man, He first reveals his name before his title.
You are not first called Prophet, Apostle, or Pastor — you are first called by name.

When God wanted to speak to His servants, He called them by their divine names:

✝️ Why Names Matter to God

Jesus said,

“Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in Heaven.” — Luke 10:20

That means the true victory is not in what you can do — but in who you are to God.

Your name in Heaven is your identity in eternity.
That is the name God calls when He speaks to your spirit.

Before Samson was born, his name was already given to his parents. Judges 13:24
“The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew, and the Lord blessed him.” The Lord blessed the baby Samson because his parents followed the instructions they were given by the angel before his birth. Judges 13:1–13.

If Samson had been named wrongly, it would have affected his divine mission on earth. The names of John the Baptist and our Lord Jesus Christ were so important to the success of their missions, and that’s why God prioritized the assignment of ensuring their parents knew two things about them before their birth: their names and their purposes. Both must go together. If one is missed, the destiny of that child will be severely impacted. This is so sensitive to God, and that’s why, to ensure flawless execution, Zechariah the priest was made dumb until after he had written the name of the baby John, and then his dumbness was healed.

Do we have an example of where a man’s destiny was severely impacted because of his name?
Yes, Jabez is a good example. His name means “sorrow” or “pain” because he was born in great pain. Jabez, by revelation, knew something was amiss in his life, as nothing worked out for him until he discovered the root cause of his miserable life to be his name. He prayed the right prayer, and God removed the curse on his name: “so that it might not bring me pain!”.
“Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, ‘Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!’ And God granted what he asked.”

The name a person bears has a significant impact on their purpose. Many challenges people face and their inability to fulfil their true purpose are connected to the names they were given before their birth. If the divine nature of the person you were named after at birth is not of God, it doesn’t matter if it is your uncle, grandmother, grandfather, or godfather or godmother—their spiritual identities and covenants with idols will severely impact the baby negatively as they grow. The name of a child connects to their Kingdom identity. Is that name connected to the Kingdom of Light or Darkness?

In the case of Samson, as he grew, the Lord blessed him because he was named correctly.
God speaks to the name, and that’s why Jesus laid more emphasis on the name you bear. Jesus said, “Do not rejoice because demons submit to you but rejoice because your name is written in the book of life.” – Luke 10:20

Let’s look at biblical patterns where divine identity was unlocked through names:

🔥 Moses — The Call to Purpose (Exodus 3:4–10)

“When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, ‘Moses! Moses!’”
And Moses said, ‘Here I am.’

God didn’t call Moses “Prophet.” He called him by name first.
Because your name carries your assignment within it.

🌿 Samuel — The Call to Prophetic Service (1 Samuel 3:10–14)

“And the LORD came and called as before, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’
And Samuel replied, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’”

God bypassed Eli and spoke to Samuel by name. Why?
Because when Heaven calls your name, it awakens your destiny.

🌟 Abram → Abraham — A Name Rewritten (Genesis 17:5)

Genesis 17:5
“Your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.”

God changed Abram’s name to Abraham — a new identity that expanded his calling.

Every time his name was spoken, Heaven heard “Father of Many Nations.”

Every time someone said “Abraham,” it was a reminder of God’s promise.

🛡️ Jacob → Israel — A Wrestler Renamed (Genesis 32:28)

After wrestling with the angel, God said,

“Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.”

The name change signified a shift in destiny — from deceiver to covenant carrier.

Jacob’s name change symbolized a new spiritual authority. God doesn’t just rename you—He repositions you.

🪨 Simon → Peter — The Rock (John 1:42; Matthew 16:18)

John 1:42; Matthew 16:18
“You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church…”

Simon’s divine name “Peter” carried authority and stability. When Heaven calls your name, it establishes your identity in the Kingdom.

Peter’s divine name redefined his role and influence in the Kingdom.

🔥 Saul → Paul — A Nature Transformed (Acts 9:3-6; Acts 13:9)

Acts 9:3–6; 13:9
From persecutor to preacher, Saul became Paul.
The name marked a new nature and assignment.

Saul’s encounter with Jesus redefined his purpose and identity. He was no longer a persecutor but a preacher. The change of name confirmed a change of nature.

🕊️ Jeremiah — Foreknown and Set Apart (Jeremiah 1:5)

Jeremiah 1:5
“Before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet…”

Jeremiah’s divine name and purpose existed before conception.

Before you were conceived, God already called your name and wrote your mission.

The question is: Do you know what Heaven calls you?

⚖️ Gideon — From Thresher to Mighty Warrior (Judges 6:12)

Judges 6:12
“The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.”

Gideon didn’t feel mighty, but God called out who he was meant to become.

Heaven didn’t see Gideon’s weakness — Heaven saw his identity. Even when Gideon was hiding, God called him by what he was meant to become.

🌊 Jonah — The Called Prophet Who Ran (Jonah 1:1-2)

Jonah 1:1–2
Jonah tried to escape God’s voice, but Heaven still called his name.

Jonah was known by God as a messenger to Nineveh. He tried to flee his divine name, but even in the storm, Heaven still called him “Prophet.”

💥 Samson — Named from the Womb (Judges 13:24)

Before Samson’s birth, the angel told his mother:

“You will become pregnant and give birth to a son.”

Even his name was chosen in Heaven.
His parents followed every divine instruction, and the Bible says,

“The child grew, and the LORD blessed him.”

If Samson had been named wrongly, his divine mission would have been distorted.

🕯️ John the Baptist Heaven-Ordained Names

Luke 1:13; Matthew 1:21

Before his birth, his name and mission was declared by God.
When Zechariah doubted and tried to rename John, God made him mute until he wrote,

“His name is John.”
Only then was his tongue loosed — because divine names cannot be tampered with.

⚠️ Jabez — A Name That Brought Pain

1 Chronicles 4:9–10
He prayed to reverse the prophecy tied to his name—and God answered.

Ask Yourself: Who Am I to God?

Take a moment today. Not to list your accomplishments, but to ask:

  • “Lord, am I known by You?”

  • What’s my name?

  • What is my true identity?

  • Am I known in heaven?

If we desire to be used by God, we must first desire to be known by Him—through surrender, humility, and faithfulness.

Some of the men of faith listed above were first isolated by God from men before they could know and function in their divine names.

🕊️ How to Discover Your Divine Name

Every person God called by name was first set apart in solitude:

  • Moses: alone with the burning bush
  • Samuel: in the quiet temple
  • Saul: blinded on the road
  • Gideon: hiding in fear
  • Peter: fishing alone

Solitude is the language of divine revelation.

Go to a quiet place.
Turn off the world.
Ask Him:

“Lord, what name do You call me in Heaven?”

Find a quiet place in nature and ask God to tell you your name.

🙏 Prayer

Lord Jesus,
Reveal to me the name You call me by.
Break every false identity, label, or name that doesn’t come from You.
Align me with the destiny You wrote for me before I was born.
Give me the courage to walk in my true identity.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

🌿 Final Reflection

You are more than what people call you.
You are who Heaven sees.

“To the one who overcomes… I will give a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.” — Revelation 2:17

Seek it.
Know it.
Live it.
