Raising God-Fearing Children in a Distracted World
🌿 Train Them in the Way of the Lord
Parents, Don’t Outsource Your Spiritual Duty
Your child’s first pastor is you—teach them by word and example.
Proverbs 22:6 reminds us:
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 – “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
God has entrusted every parent with a sacred assignment — to raise children who know, love, and fear the Lord. But in today’s world of endless distractions, that task has never been more urgent.
Screens are everywhere. Entertainment is constant. And most of it carries values and messages completely opposite to God’s truth. If we don’t plant the Word in our children, the world will plant its lies.
🌿 The Power of the Word in a Child’s Life
Today’s world is full of distractions — Netflix, 24/7 entertainment, endless video games, social media trends, and a flood of ungodly content designed to capture young, impressionable minds.
Some of you were raised in simpler times — when TV was limited, limited access to Internet, when playtime was outdoors, and when family prayers were common. But today, many parents hand their children over to screens just to “keep them busy,” forgetting that those same screens often introduce strange spirits, perverse ideas, and ungodly influences into their innocent hearts.
Jesus said in Matthew 19:14: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Children are not “too young” to hear from God. Their innocent hearts are often the purest vessels for God’s voice. But if you contaminate their minds with the foolishness of the world, you hinder them from hearing Him.
Children are not too young to know God. In fact, Jesus Himself said:
> Matthew 19:14 – “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
We must stop underestimating what God can do in a child’s life — and start building an environment that welcomes His voice and presence.
🌿 Don’t Say: “I’m Not a Pastor”
You may feel unqualified — maybe you didn’t grow up in a spiritual home, or you feel unsure about Scripture. The spiritual training of your children is not the responsibility of the pastor, Sunday School teacher, or YouTubre preacher – it is your divine assignment.
You might raise respectful, obedient children — but without a foundation in God’s Word, they will not become God-fearing.
They may obey you in your presence but outsmart you with technology when you are not watching.
As Prophet T.B. Joshua once warned:
> “The devil loses no time in plotting against you, so also you must lose no time in committing yourself to God through prayer.”
If the devil wastes no time, why should you waste yours in raising your children in distractions instead of devotion?
If the enemy is working overtime to reach your child’s heart, shouldn’t you be even more committed to their spiritual formation?
🌿 Habits That Cultivate God-Fearing Children
Here are practical, Spirit-led ways to lead your children:
1. Turn Entertainment into Edification
Replace movie nights with sermons, educative documentaries, worship sessions, deliverance confessions & testimonies. Afterwards, discuss what everyone learned. If there is no positive influence or learning, why watch it?
2. Take Your Children on Prayer Walks
Teach them how to pray from the heart through meditation — demonstrate it. Let them walk beside you as you pray, so they learn prayer is not just words but lifestyle of a true Christian.
3. Encourage Questions
Don’t silence your children when they ask difficult questions about faith, life, or God. That’s how you discover what voices they’re hearing outside your home.
Their questions will reveal the seeds in their hearts — whether planted by God or by the world. Don’t avoid the tough questions. Answer them with patience, backed by Scripture.
4. Correct with the Word of God
Don’t discipline based only on personal opinion. Use Scripture to show what God says. This helps your child develop a fear of God, not just fear of punishment. When you discipline or correct them, show them the verse behind your decision.
5. Study the Bible as a Family
Make reading, meditating, and applying God’s Word part of family culture. Make family devotions a habit. Don’t be too busy chasing money or personal success while Satan plants seeds in your children’s hearts.
6. Talk Passionately About God Daily
Share stories, testimonies, and truths about God naturally in your conversations. Let your children hear your love for God in your words.
Let God be a normal part of everyday conversation. Share testimonies, Scripture, and simple truths in your natural tone — it teaches them that God is real, near, and involved.
7. Plan Family Outdoor activities and exercises
Encourage your kids to participate in outdoor games. Challenge them with tasks that will bring out their inner creativity. Occupy their minds with the right things that can help them grow naturally.
🌿 The Final Call: Watch Over Their Hearts
The most valuable inheritance you can give your child is not wealth, education, or connections—it is the fear of God. That fear is birthed through the Word of God. Psalm 119:11
Parents, talk passionately about God.
Model godliness before your children.
Replace worldly habits with spiritual disciplines.
The enemy knows the next generation carries prophetic power. That’s why he targets them early.
Don’t let distractions disciple your children. Guard what they watch, hear, and absorb. More importantly, teach them to guard their own hearts:
Psalm 119:11 – “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
Hide the Word in their hearts — not just once a week, but daily. This is how you raise children who won’t just attend church, but become the Church.
🙏 A Prayer for Parents
Lord Jesus,Give me wisdom, patience, and courage to raise my children in Your fear. Help me to model a godly life before them. May our home be a sanctuary of Your Word, and may my children grow to love You above all else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
