What You Entertain Will Eventually Rule You
What You Entertain, You Eventually Obey
“The Spirit of God dwells where His Word is not only honored but protected from contamination.”
We often emphasize love, prayer, forgiveness, and purity of heart. But there is a hidden gatekeeper most believers overlook:
👉 Your attention.
👉 Your meditation.
👉 Your daily entertainments.
The battleground has shifted. The enemy is no longer primarily targeting your actions—he’s targeting your attention. The enemy no longer fights believers at the level of their prayers—he now fights at the level of their attention.
Why? Because what holds your attention will soon rule your meditation, and what dominates your meditation will direct your obedience.
What Are You Entertaining?
You may not actively disobey God.
But if you consistently entertain fear, you’ll soon act out of fear, not faith.
You may read the Bible every morning.
But if you habitually entertain bitterness, the seed of the Word cannot grow in contaminated soil. that Word you read cannot take root in the soil of your heart. Your offence grieves Him.
You may sit and listen to gossip, ungodly talk without contributing to the conversation but because you listened you gave the devil permission to listen to your own conversations uninvited. This is why sometimes you are sure, you never mentioned something to anyone but your plan got leaked and fail prematurely.
“Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech”—Proverbs 4:24
You may watch movies but if you don’t meditate while watching them, the ungodly parts of what you watch may begin to play in your mind and dreams again without your permission and rob you of divine visitations because your eye is a window to your mind. Soon you will find yourself doing or practicing what you watched either physically or spiritually in your dreams.
You might serve in church faithfully.
But if you constantly entertain pride or self-glory, your service will begin to serve you, not Christ.
We must learn to trace our obedience back to our attention.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” — Matthew 6:22
The Dangerous Power of Silent Entertainments
Many believers are disciplined in action but passive in thought.
We:
- Pray, but nurse offense
- Worship, but envy silently
- Serve, but crave the approval of man
Why does this happen?
Because we’ve allowed unclean spirits to sit at the table of our thoughts. They don’t enter with horns and pitchforks—they enter as subtle ideas, inner dialogues, passing entertainments.
Scripture on Guarding the Mind
If you cannot control something physically in this world, then you have no chance at all to control it spiritually. This is why many have wet dreams from sex with spiritual husbands and wives against their will.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” — Colossians 3:2
“Do not give the devil a foothold.” — Ephesians 4:27
If you give the devil a foothold, a tiny chance, he never misses a chance to put his chains on your weakness.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” — Colossians 3:2
“Do not give the devil a foothold.” — Ephesians 4:27
“Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 10:5
These aren’t just poetic suggestions. These are spiritual strategies for survival.
Every Thought Is a Visitor
Some carry seeds.
Some carry chains.
The ones you entertain too long will either grow God’s purpose in your life…
or choke it out.
Closing Takeaway
What you watch, what you meditate on, what you scroll through, and what you allow to linger in your thoughts—all of it shapes who or what you obey.
If the Spirit of God is to dwell richly within you, your thought life must be a cleansed and consecrated temple.
Protect your attention.
Guard your meditation.
Take captive every thought.
🛐 A Prayer:
“Lord, help me to guard the gates of my heart.
Let nothing stay in my thoughts that does not serve Your purpose.
Take more of me—my attention, my emotions, my mind—and give me more of You.”
