When You Are Stuck in Life — The Way Out Is a Retreat
When You Are Stuck in Life — The Way Out Is a Retreat
Mark 6:31 — “Then Jesus said, ‘Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.’ He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.”
There comes a time in life when you hit a wall—nothing seems to move forward, and your strength feels depleted. At that moment, the answer is not noise, not demands, not more hustle—but stillness.
When you are stuck in life, consider taking time off for a short retreat. This is not for shouting “Jesus! Jesus!” with demands, but for quiet reflection. God is not deaf. He hears even the whispers of your heart.
A tired mind cannot make excellent decisions. You can’t hear from God clearly when you are caught up in the chaos of daily routines, pressures, and constant activity. Even Jesus, though full of power, often withdrew to quiet places to align with the Father’s will.
Why Go for a Personal Retreat?
To Disconnect from Noise The world is noisy. Everyone has an opinion. A retreat silences the world so you can hear the still, small voice of God.
To Realign Your Vision Your goals must reflect your divine purpose, not societal pressure.
To Reset Your Heart In stillness, your heart is cleansed from offense, pride, and distractions. This is where transformation begins.
Questions to Reflect On During Retreat
As you sit in silence, ask yourself:
Is my integrity in check?
“Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich.” — Proverbs 28:Am I walking in line with God’s purpose?
Your success is not in activity but in alignment. Are you in your lane?Who am I to God?
Not how the world sees you, but how heaven identifies you.Do people love me for my essence or for what I have?
Am I a magnet only when I’m useful?Am I surrounded by “yes” men?
People who only agree with me may be silently helping me fail.Am I building for eternity or for applause?
“What will matter at the end of my life?”
Reconciliation and Realignment
A retreat is the place to reconcile your past, present, and future. Look into your past—learn the lessons. Consider your present—check your alignment. Plan your future—with God’s purpose at the center.
Life only makes sense when it is lived in the direction of purpose.
Practical Steps for a Personal Retreat
Choose a Quiet Place — Away from distractions.
Take Your Bible and a Journal — Let God speak and write what He says.
Fast or Minimize Food — Keep your spirit sensitive.
Minimize Phone Use — Unless it is to play worship music or read Scripture.
Set Clear Intentions — Before starting your retreat, write down what you hope to achieve. This could be clarity, peace, or direction.
Pray for Guidance — Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you throughout the retreat and reveal what God wants you to know.
Limit External Communication — Inform close family or friends about your retreat and minimize unnecessary interactions.
Reflect and Journal — Write down insights, thoughts, and revelations during your retreat to revisit later.
Talk Less, Listen More to God — Let God do the talking. Here is a playlist than can help you connect your spirit with God.
Read the Bible Slowly, Repeatedly and Attentively — Allow the Word to search you.
Meditate Deeply in Spirit Prayer — Spend time in quiet, heartfelt prayer. Allow the Holy Spirit to intercede and guide your thoughts. Focus on connecting with God beyond words, letting His presence fill your heart and mind. Looking for a helpful prayer for meditation? I recommend this one
Listen to Hymns, Psalms and Soul-Uplifting Gospel Music — Music has a way of calming the soul and opening the heart to God. Choose songs that draw you closer to Him and inspire worship. Need a playlist of songs? I recommend this one
Rest — Even God rested on the seventh day.
Final Thought
True satisfaction does not come from money, status, or applause—it comes from experiencing God.
Take time to sit with Him. Let Him define you again. Let Him guide you out of the confusion. Let Him show you what really matters.
“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” — Psalm 16:11
