🌿 Are You Humble When You Pray?

The strength of your Christian life is reflected in the humility and sincerity of your prayer. Many people wonder why their prayers go unanswered—not realizing their words may rise from pride, entitlement, or even subtle ultimatums or threats toward God. But the Bible makes it clear:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
— Psalm 34:18
✨ Stop Demanding — Start Surrendering in Prayer
In today’s fast-paced world, many approach prayer like a business negotiation or transaction instead of an intimate conversation with their Father.
They pray like this:
“God, my mates are getting promoted—why not me? Am I not a Christian?” - “If by this time next month things don’t change, I will quit my marriage.” - “I tithe regularly, yet nothing is moving in my life!” - “Jesus, I must receive my visa this year.” - “If I get this job/contract, then I will serve you for the rest of my life.”
💬 But here’s the question: Who is the Creator, and who is the creation? Can a pen tell the writer what to write? Can the clay argue with the Potter about its shape?
> “Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God?”
>Romans 9:20
True prayer doesn’t demand—it bows.
💭 Why Humility in Prayer Matters
✅ Pride grieves the Holy Spirit. He cannot dwell in a heart full of entitlement and arrogance.
✅ Jesus taught us not to pray with meaningless repetition. Matthew 6:7. Prayer isn’t about many words, it’s about a sincere heart.
✅ Faith submits. It doesn’t tell God what to do It doesn’t twist God’s hand; it trusts His timing.
> “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” — James 4:6
✅ Brokenness moves God. Real prayer comes from brokenness, not boastfulness. God is not impressed with your demands—He is moved by your surrender. He listens to surrendered hearts, not boastful lips.
✅ Don’t ask God to bless your plans—ask for His plan. The blessing is already built into it (1 Chronicles 14:14).
🙏 A Humble Prayer by Prophet TB Joshua
“Take me as I am, O Lord, You can still cleanse me…
Because no one is too good or too bad to qualify for salvation. All I need is Your mercy and favour. Dirty as I am, O Lord, You can still cleanse me. Don’t comfort me until You cleanse me. Let Your mercy and favour speak for me. Create a clean heart in me and renew a faithful spirit within me.”
O Holy Spirit, Breathe in me, that my thoughts may all be holy.
O Holy Spirit, Act in me, that my work may be holy.
O Holy Spirit, Strengthen me, to defend all that is holy.
O Holy Spirit, Guide me, that I always may be holy.”
🗝️ Final Takeaway
- Let your prayer be more about God’s will than your wants.
- Let your heart be broken, not boastful.
- Let your lips overflow with praise, not pressure.
Prayer isn’t a bargain—it’s bowing down.
God doesn’t need your reminders—He desires your relationship.
