🌱Whatever You Are Familiar With Becomes Your Nature

If you are not familiar with God’s Word, you will always confess fear, doubt, worry, and anxiety in your conversations. In other words, you will speak the devil’s language and will often attract a circle of friends who do the same. You will automatically attract bad company because of your fruits—Matthew 7:20. Remember the saying, ‘Birds of a feather flock together.’

Your Words Reflect Your Heart

Figure 1: YOU ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH YOUR FAMILIARITY - SpiritWorshipGen

Key Scriptures:

  • Matthew 7:20“Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.

  • Proverbs 16:24“Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

  • Luke 6:45“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”

  • 2 Timothy 1:7“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

🌱Whatever you are familiar with becomes your nature. You are synonymous with your familiarity.

If you are not familiar with God’s Word, you will always confess fear, doubt, worry, and anxiety in your conversations. In other words, you will speak the devil’s language and will often attract a circle of friends who do the same. You will automatically attract bad company because of your fruits—Matthew 7:20. Remember the saying, “Birds of a feather flock together.”

We were taught by Prophet TB Joshua that “What is not worth your meditation is not worth your conversation”

If you familiarize yourself with God’s Word, it will influence your conduct, character, and conversations. You will speak boldly and confidently, like Jesus and his apostles did whenever they were challenged by the devil—Matthew 4:1–11, 2 Timothy 1:7, Luke 21:15.

God’s Character comes when we agree with God’s Word in our heart. You must align your mouth with your heart.

If your heart is grounded in God’s Word, there will be absolutely no need to say embarrassing things like “that was a slip of the tongue,” “I didn’t mean it that way.” Your words will be like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy to the body of your listeners—Proverbs 16:24. You will speak only when it really matters and with God’s wisdom—Proverbs 10:19–21

The Words you speak is a product of the state of your heart—Matthew 13:34–40

Familiarity Forms Identity

What you spend time with, you become like. This is a spiritual principle that affects both your internal nature and external behavior.

Prophet TB Joshua taught:

“What is not worth your meditation is not worth your conversation.”

This means:
If you are not meditating on God’s Word, then your conversations will never reflect God’s truth. Instead, you will speak the language of your environment—fear, doubt, anxiety, negativity, gossip, lust, pride, or defeat.

Familiarity with the World Breeds:

  • Worry and anxiety (Matthew 6:31–34)

  • Doubt in God’s promises (James 1:6–8)

  • Negative thinking and speech

  • Fear of the unknown (Romans 8:15)

  • Ungodly friendships that influence you further (1 Corinthians 15:33)

Birds of a feather flock together. What you speak naturally attracts like-minded people. If your words are careless, negative, or flesh-driven, you will gather around you those who feed on the same mindset.

Familiarity with God’s Word Breeds:

  • Faith and ConfidenceRomans 10:17

  • Bold Confession in times of trial — Luke 21:15

  • Godly Wisdom in speech — Proverbs 10:19

  • Spiritual MaturityHebrews 5:14

  • A transformed heart and mindRomans 12:2

Biblical Examples of Word-Filled Hearts

Jesus – Matthew 4:1–11

When tempted by Satan in the wilderness, Jesus responded with “It is written.”
He didn’t speak from emotion or fear but from the Word of God stored in His heart.

Stephen – Acts 7:55–60

When facing death, he didn’t curse or fear. He prayed, forgave his killers, and committed his spirit to God.

Why? Because he was “full of the Holy Spirit.”

Apostle Paul – Acts 20:22–24

Despite facing chains and tribulation, Paul said, “None of these things move me.”
His spirit was too familiar with God’s presence to be shaken by persecution.

Practical Application: Aligning Heart and Mouth

1. Guard Your Inputs

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23

What you watch, read, listen to, and discuss determines your spiritual atmosphere. If your mind is filled with worldly things, your heart cannot be pure.

2. Meditate Before You Speak

“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” – Psalm 141:3

Make a habit of meditating on one Scripture daily. Let it sink into your heart before you engage in conversations.
If God’s Word dominates your thoughts, your speech will carry wisdom, grace, and power.

3. Speak When It Matters

“In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.” – Proverbs 10:19

Silence is not weakness. It is spiritual discipline. A person who speaks only when led by the Spirit will be known for wisdom and authority.

4. Surround Yourself with Word-Filled People

“Iron sharpens iron…” – Proverbs 27:17
Be intentional about your associations. Fellowship with people whose lives are governed by the Word will sharpen your convictions and refine your speech.

Final Reflection:

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” – Psalm 19:14

You are what you meditate on.
Your tongue reveals your heart.
Your heart reveals your familiarity.
And your familiarity becomes your identity.

Prayer:

Lord, fill my heart with Your Word. Let it dominate my thoughts and conversations. Make my words sweet like honey and pleasing in Your sight. Give me grace to meditate day and night, so I may speak with wisdom, love, and faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
