What Do You Have in the House?
What Do You Have in the House?
Key Scriptures: 2 Kings 4:1-7, Exodus 4:2, Matthew 14:17-20, Isaiah 55:8-9, 1 John 2:15-17
2Kings 4:1-2 A widow complained to Prophet Elisha about her indebtedness—she was a debtor, owing people money. The prophet asked her a prophetic question, “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” The woman answered, “Nothing at all except a flask of olive oil.” Her answer was sincere, and her motive was genuine before God, which led to her receiving divine help. |
Imagine if she had twisted the answer to that question to suit any wrong motives. She was in debt and afraid, but she maintained her integrity before God. |
Likewise, God is asking you who are complaining about money to Him: “Tell me, what do you have in the house? What do you have in your hands? What do you know how to do?” |
God will use that little thing you have in your house or in your hands to bless and sustain you. God does not give money; He gives blessings. Inside these blessings, you will find money and make money with it. |
The Widow’s complaint was about money, 💰 but instead, God gave her Blessings that will attract money. |
Stop asking God to give you money; ask Him to bless you according to His will. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways”—Isaiah 55:8-9. He gives us what will bring lasting value, not temporary pleasure. Whatever God decides to give you, it will always be enough because it comes with peace of mind—John 14:27 |
God does not give us cravings that fade away, He gives us content for our eternal life— 1 John 2:15–17 |
## The Principle of Divine Multiplication |
📖 2 Kings 4:1-2 “One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, ‘My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.’ ‘What can I do to help you?’ Elisha asked. ‘Tell me, what do you have in the house?’ ‘Nothing at all, except a small jar of olive oil,’ she replied.” |
The widow was in deep financial trouble, yet Elisha did not hand her money. Instead, he asked, “What do you have in the house?” |
- She thought she had nothing at all, but there was something small—a flask of olive oil. |
- That small oil became the source of her miracle. |
💡 Lesson: God does not create something out of nothing; He multiplies what you already have. |
1️⃣ God Uses What You Already Have
📖 Exodus 4:2
“Then the Lord asked him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A shepherd’s staff,’ Moses replied.”
Moses was called to deliver Israel, but he did not recognize the power in his staff.
That ordinary staff became a tool for miracles (Exodus 14:16).
The widow’s oil became a means for financial freedom (2 Kings 4:1-7).
The boy’s five loaves and two fish fed thousands (Matthew 14:17-20).
🔥 Truth: God always starts with what is in your hands!
2️⃣ Stop Complaining, Start Recognizing Your Blessings
Many people complain about lack of money, jobs, or progress, but have you asked yourself what is already in your hands?
- Instead of crying for money, ask: What skill do I have? What talent has God given me? What small thing do I possess that God can multiply?
📖 Deuteronomy 8:18
“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”
💡 God does not drop money from heaven; He blesses the work of your hands!
🔥 Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to see what You have already given me.
3️⃣ God Blesses You with Resources, Not Just Money
📖 Isaiah 55:8-9
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
The widow asked for help with money, but God gave her a business opportunity through the oil. Many times, we ask God for:
A financial breakthrough 💰 — but He gives us an idea or a skill.
A high-paying job 👔 — but He gives us a small business that grows.
Instant success 🌟 — but He allows a season of process and training.
🔥 Truth: God is more interested in sustainable blessings than temporary relief!
4️⃣ God’s Blessings Bring Peace, Not Anxiety
📖 John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Money gained without God’s blessing brings anxiety and sorrow.
Money that comes from God’s blessings brings peace, contentment, and growth.
📖 1 John 2:15-17
“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.”
🔥 Truth: God’s provision is not just about money—it is about purpose, peace, and eternal rewards!
5️⃣ What Should You Do?
✅ Ask God to reveal what you already have
📖 “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” (2 Kings 4:2)
✅ Use your skills, gifts, and resources wisely
📖 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”(Ecclesiastes 9:10)
✅ Trust God’s process and avoid shortcuts
📖 “The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” (Proverbs 10:22)
Final Words: Shift Your Prayer Focus
Instead of asking God for money, pray like this:
🛐 “Lord, bless the work of my hands. Open my eyes to see the resources You have already given me. Let my little become much in Your hands.”
🌟 Declaration:
“What I have in my house and in my hands will multiply! My gifts, talents, and resources will bring lasting blessings in Jesus’ name!” 🙏🔥
