The Power of Command

Joshua 10:12–23, Exodus 23:26, John 3:8

There are divine creations and decrees established by the Almighty God that Satan himself cannot alter, no matter how much he desires to. Satan is limited in power and authority because he cannot manipulate, recreate, or destroy the things he did not create.

Let’s explore some examples of God’s unchangeable power over creation and His plans for humanity.

1️⃣ Joshua Commanded the Sun and Moon to Stand Still

Joshua 10:12–23:
Joshua, under divine authority, commanded the sun and moon to stand still until Israel defeated its enemies.

🌱 While Satan would love to perform such extraordinary acts, he cannot, has not, and will not because:

  • Only God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, has the power to alter the processes of nature.

  • Satan does not have the authority to change the sequence of what he did not create.

2️⃣ God’s Process of Life Cannot Be Altered by Satan

🌱 God’s design for human life includes a woman carrying a child for nine months. Even Satan must frustratingly wait for the baby to be born before he can attempt any form of destruction.

  • Exodus 23:26: “There shall be no miscarriages or infertility in your land.”
Miscarriages are not part of God’s original design—they are often the result of sin or disobedience in a fallen world.

This reminds us that while Satan can attempt to disrupt or frustrate God’s plans, he cannot change or shorten the process God has designed.

3️⃣ Nature Is Beyond Satan’s Control

The seas, rivers, and oceans—created by the mighty hand of God—are beyond Satan’s ability to alter:

  • God parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross (Exodus 14).

  • God parted the Jordan River for Joshua and the Israelites to enter the Promised Land (Joshua 4).

🌱 While Satan and his demons may occupy certain areas of the world, including the waters, they cannot recreate, alter, or command nature as God does.

4️⃣ The Wind Blows by Divine Command

John 3:8 reminds us:
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

🌱 The wind obeys only God’s divine command, not Satan’s. Satan has no power to control or redirect the wind because it is governed by the Creator’s sovereign will.

5️⃣ The Example of Prophet T.B. Joshua

🌱 Prophet T.B. Joshua was one of the most hated prophets of this generation, but despite Satan’s schemes:

  • Satan was unable to destroy him.

  • The works of God through him not only continued but have multiplied through the lives of many apostles across the world today.

This is a testament that what is of God cannot be destroyed by Satan.

6️⃣ Satan’s Limitations

Although Satan has the power of destruction, he is still limited in the following ways:

  1. He Cannot Destroy Nature
Satan can occupy areas of nature but cannot recreate or alter what God has established.

  2. He Can Only Destroy What Is Yoked in Sin
Satan thrives in sin. If something is free of sin and aligned with God’s will, Satan has no authority to destroy it.

  3. He Operates Only Under God’s Permission
Satan can do nothing unless God permits it (Job 1:12, Luke 22:31). Even then, God uses Satan’s actions to fulfill His divine purposes.

Key Takeaway

Satan’s power is limited, and he cannot:

  • Change the laws of nature God established.

  • Destroy what God has protected and consecrated.

  • Alter the plans and purposes of God for your life unless sin gives him access.

God’s sovereignty over creation, life, and destiny is absolute.

How to Rest in God’s Sovereignty

  1. Trust God’s Process
No matter the situation, know that God’s plans for your life are unchangeable and cannot be thwarted by Satan.

  2. Stay Aligned with God’s Will
Live a life free of sin, walking in obedience and submission to God’s Word, so that Satan has no legal ground in your life.

  3. Stand Firm in Faith
When trials come, remember that Satan is limited. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.

  4. Declare God’s Word
Speak God’s promises over your life and remind yourself that Satan has no power to alter what God has decreed.

Prayer

🙏 Father, I thank You for Your unchangeable plans and processes in my life. Teach me to rest in Your sovereignty and trust in Your timing. I rebuke every lie of Satan that seeks to provoke fear or doubt in my heart. May Your Word abide in me, and may I walk in obedience to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
