There is danger in comfort. When you do not find time to pray because of comfort, this means pleasure has taken the position of God in your life and when you love pleasure more than God, you are bound to destroy the grace of God in your life.

Do you know why many fail to maintain the blessings they receive from God?

Psalms 66:18–19

The Problem: Forgetting What It Takes to Maintain Grace

🌱 One of the greatest challenges we face is not receiving the blessings of God, but maintaining them. Often, when God’s grace lifts us out of hardship and blesses us, we forget the devotion, humility, and prayer life that brought us there in the first place.

For example:

  • Before your breakthrough, you prayed fervently, three times a day.

  • Now that you are blessed, you claim you are “too busy” to pray.

This neglect shows that you have started misbehaving in the grace you received. You may begin to act as though your breakthrough came from your own strength, intelligence, or hard work, rather than acknowledging the grace of God.

Grace Is Unmerited Favor, Not Your Effort

🌱 It is important to remember that the blessings in your life are not because of your works or personal effort.

The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:10:
“By the grace of God, I am what I am.”

  • It is not your intelligence or hard work that caused your blessing.

  • Many people work harder than you do but have nothing to show for it.

Your breakthrough is purely the result of God’s grace. Recognize it, give thanks for it, and glorify God for it.

he Danger of Comfort

Psalm 66:18–19 warns us that there is danger in comfort.

When we are blessed, there is a tendency to:

  1. Neglect Prayer: We stop seeking God the way we used to because we feel “comfortable.”

  2. Love Pleasure More Than God: When pleasure and comfort take the place of God in your life, you are bound to destroy the grace you received.

Let us not forget:

  • Blessings and comfort should never replace intimacy with God.

  • Success is a test of faithfulness. It is in times of blessing that the true condition of our hearts is revealed.

A true child of God remains devoted to Him no matter the circumstance. As Romans 12:12 says:
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

How to Maintain the Grace of God

  1. Remain Humble and Grateful

    • Always give God the glory for your blessings. Like Paul, confess daily, “By the grace of God, I am what I am.”
  2. Keep Your Prayer Life Alive

    • Don’t let blessings or busyness rob you of time with God. Make prayer a non-negotiable part of your daily routine.
  3. Stay Faithful in Worship and Service

    • Remember the devotion you had before the breakthrough and continue to serve God with all your heart.
  4. Guard Your Heart Against Pleasure

    • Ensure that comfort and material possessions do not take the place of God in your life.
  5. Meditate on the Word of God

    • As John 15:7 says:
“If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

A Warning from the Psalmist

Psalm 66:18–19 reminds us:
“If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.”

Neglecting prayer and allowing sin or comfort to take over your life destroys the grace of God. This is why it is crucial to remain in constant fellowship with Him.

Prayer

🙏 Father, thank You for Your grace and blessings in my life. Help me to remain humble, devoted, and faithful to You in both times of need and times of comfort. Teach me to maintain the grace You have given me and to always glorify You in all I do. May Your Word abide in me, and may I abide in it, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
