Are You Following a Captain Without Wounds?

John 20:20–29, John 16:33, Isaiah 53:3, 1 Peter 2:24, Psalm 119:71, Romans 8:28, Revelation 5

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, He showed them His wounds—the scars on His hands and the stripes on His back. These were not hidden but openly displayed as marks of His testimony.

John 20:20–29

“After He said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.”

Jesus had the power to close His wounds completely, yet He chose to keep them visible. Why? To remind us of the price He paid for our salvation and to reassure us of His victory over death.

In Revelation 5, we see the Lamb of God standing as though slain—still bearing the marks of His sacrifice. These wounds are a testament of His love and victory, a symbol for all who follow Him.

The Significance of Wounds

Our wounds, like those of Jesus, are marks or symbols of our testimonies. They can be physical, emotional, or spiritual, but they serve a divine purpose.

  1. Wounds Are a Testament to Your Journey
Your scars represent the trials and challenges you have overcome through God’s grace. Someone out there is waiting to hear your story to find hope in their own situation.

  2. Wounds Reflect Your Victory in Christ
    Jesus said in John 16:33:
“In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Your wounds are a reminder that while the Christian journey is filled with tribulation, victory in Christ is assured.

  3. Wounds Perfect Our Faith and Character
As Christians, the challenges and trials we face are not meant to destroy us but to refine and perfect us. “The testing of your faith produces perseverance” (James 1:3).

Jesus, the Captain of Our Salvation

🏆 Jesus is the Captain of our salvation. His wounds and stripes are the ultimate symbols of victory, love, and sacrifice. He leads us as one who understands suffering and has triumphed over it.

  • He was despised and rejected (Isaiah 53:3).

  • He bore our sins on the cross (1 Peter 2:24).

  • He was wounded for our transgressions (Isaiah 53:5).

If Jesus, our Captain, has wounds, how can we expect to follow Him without bearing some of our own?Come with Hunger: Desire the Word as if your life depends on it—because it does.

Why You Need Wounds as a Christian

💭 “The wise warn us not to follow a captain or a general without wounds.”

Wounds signify that you’ve been through battles and survived by the grace of God. They are proof of God’s faithfulness and your testimony of endurance.

  • Your wounds inspire others: They show others that victory is possible in Christ.

  • Your wounds build faith: They remind you that God is always with you, even in the hardest of times.

  • Your wounds refine your character: Challenges deepen your trust in God and shape you into His image.

Your Wounds Are a Message of Hope

Your wounds are not the end of your story—they are the beginning of your testimony. Someone out there is in desperate need to hear your story to escape their own desperate situation.

  • Are you facing financial hardship? Your testimony could give hope to someone struggling with lack.

  • Have you endured sickness? Your healing could inspire faith in someone else.

  • Have you overcome heartbreak or loss? Your perseverance could strengthen someone on the verge of giving up.

Remember, Jesus kept His wounds visible so that we could recognize Him and find hope in Him. Likewise, your wounds are there to point others to Jesus.

How to Embrace Your Wounds

  1. See Them as Tools of Ministry
God uses your scars to help others. Share your story when the Holy Spirit leads you—it may be the lifeline someone else needs.

  2. Thank God for the Lessons
Like David in Psalm 119:71, say:
“It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.”

  3. Trust in God’s Purpose
Know that your wounds are not in vain. Romans 8:28 promises that “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.”

  4. Follow the Captain With Wounds
Jesus is our ultimate example. He bore the cross and triumphed over death. Follow Him with confidence, knowing that your struggles will lead to eternal glory.

Prayer

🙏 Father, thank You for the challenges that shape my character and deepen my faith. Teach me to see my wounds as a testament of Your love and faithfulness. Help me use my testimony to inspire and encourage others, just as Jesus used His wounds to point us to victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
