DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU LOVE MORE THAN GOD CAN CAUSE YOUR DOWNFALL?

“Then He returned to His disciples and found them sleeping. ‘Could you not keep watch with Me for one hour?’ He asked Peter. ‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’”

🪤 Satan Uses What You Cherish Most as Bait

Samson, a mighty man of valor, chosen and empowered by God from birth, carried an anointing that made him undefeatable by his enemies—until he chose to love Delilah more than God.
He trusted her with the secret of his strength, even after she repeatedly betrayed his trust. Why? Because his heart was no longer fully with God.

“When his heart turned to Delilah, his strength departed.” — Judges 16

The Philistines didn’t conquer Samson with spears or swords.
They conquered him through what he loved more than God.

What Does This Teach Us?

The downfall of the anointed often begins with misplaced affection.

Satan rarely uses something we hate to bring us down. He uses something we secretly idolize—something we love, crave, or prioritize above obedience to God.

Prophet TB Joshua once warned:

“Satan has access to your life through what you love more than God. That is where your trial will come from.”

Ask Yourself Honestly:

What do I love more than God?
Is it a relationship?
Is it a lifestyle or comfort?
Is it my title, career, or public image?
Is it my reputation, intellect, or talent?
Is it my spouse, children, or ambition?

These things are not evil on their own. But the moment they become more important than God, they become spiritual traps.

⚠️ The Danger of Misplaced Priorities

Jesus said:

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me.”
— Matthew 10:37

God is not against our families, jobs, or relationships.
He is against anything that competes with Him in our hearts.

💡 Whatever you cannot surrender to God, is already ruling your life.

🛡 How to Guard Your Heart

1. Examine Yourself Daily — Ask: “Is there anything I love more than God?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).

2. Prioritize God’s Word — When the Word dominates your heart, your love for God is constantly renewed.

3. Watch and Pray — Jesus warned us in Matthew 26:41 that temptation comes when the flesh is weak. Prayer strengthens your spirit to resist.

4. Surrender Continually — Make it a daily prayer: “Lord, take more of me and give me more of You.”

5. Live with an Eternal Perspective — Remember: possessions, positions, and people are temporary. Only God is eternal.

6. Lay Everything on the Altar

Make a habit of surrendering the things you love back to God. Abraham was tested with Isaac—his most precious gift.

7. Practice Detachment

Use things, love people but stay attached only to God.

8. Be Willing to Lose

If keeping something means losing your peace or disobeying God, it’s time to let it go.

What Should You Do Now?

Reflect deeply and ask yourself:

What is it in my life that I may be prioritizing over God?
Am I watching and praying, or am I spiritually asleep?

Let your mind become the watchman of your soul, keeping you alert to the schemes of Satan.

Finally People of God,

Don’t let the blessings in your life become the very bait Satan uses against you.

Love the Blesser more than the blessing.

When God is first, everything else falls into place. But when He is not, even the best blessings can become your downfall.

So I ask you today:

What do you love more than God?

Prayer:

🙏 Lord Jesus, help me to love You above all else in my life. Give me the grace to watch and pray so that I may overcome the temptations of the enemy. Open my eyes to the lessons from my past experiences and help me not to repeat them. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
