How Are You Handling the Destruction Caused by Sins We Commit Unknowingly?

Psalm 19:12-13, 1 John 1:9, Matthew 7:1-5

Two Types of Sin

There are two types of sins that we commit:

  1. Knowing Sin

    • These are the sins we commit intentionally, fully aware of what we are doing.

    • For example: Lying, stealing, or holding a grudge with full knowledge that these actions are wrong.

  2. Unknowing Sin

    • These are sins we commit without realizing it. They could stem from ignorance, hidden issues, or spiritual factors we are unaware of.

    • The root cause of most hidden problems in our lives often comes from these unknowing sins.

Psalm 19:12 says:
“But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults.”

A Real-Life Story of Unknowing Sin

To illustrate the danger of unknowing sin, let’s revisit a true story that occurred at the Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN):

  • A woman caught her husband in adultery and decided to end her marriage without seeking God’s opinion.

  • Believing she had solid evidence and justification, she assumed she was in the right.

  • Later, she sought God’s help for other issues plaguing her life and attended a mass prayer session led by Prophet T.B. Joshua.

The Revelation

During the prayer, T.B. Joshua revealed that her husband’s infidelity was caused by her own unknowing sin:

  • She had been involved with a spiritual husband (a demonic spirit) in the spiritual realm, which she was unaware of.

  • This spiritual adultery afflicted her earthly husband, driving him to lust and infidelity.

  • Her husband loved her but could not understand why he was compelled to cheat.

The demon confessed its plan to destroy her marriage, and through the power of God, T.B. Joshua cast it out.

  • Once delivered, the woman realized her error and couldn’t wait to reconcile with her God-given husband.

Lessons From This Story

  1. Satan Causes Men to Commit Shameful Acts

    • Satan often manipulates people to act against their will. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil.
  2. Don’t Rush to Conclusions Without Seeking God’s Opinion

    • Even in the face of seemingly undeniable evidence, always ask for God’s guidance. Matthew 7:1-5 teaches us not to judge prematurely because we don’t always see the full picture.
  3. The Role of Unknowing Sin in Our Lives

    • Many hidden problems—whether in our marriages, careers, or health—may stem from sins or spiritual issues we are unaware of. These must be brought to light through prayer and God’s revelation.
  4. God Is Merciful and Ready to Deliver

    • When we seek God’s help, He is faithful to reveal hidden issues and deliver us. 1 John 1:9:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

How to Handle Unknowing Sin

  1. Ask God to Reveal Hidden Sins

    • Pray as David did in Psalm 139:23-24:
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
  2. Stay Close to God

    • A strong relationship with God through prayer, fasting, and Bible study helps us remain sensitive to His voice and revelation.
  3. Seek Deliverance

    • If you suspect spiritual influences in your life, seek deliverance in a church or ministry where the power of God is present to expose and remove demonic activity.
  4. Be Slow to Judge

    • Avoid jumping to conclusions about others or yourself. Instead, ask for God’s wisdom and discernment before making decisions.
  5. Keep Your Heart Clean

    • Confess your sins daily and ask God for forgiveness for both known and unknown sins. Psalm 19:12-13:
“Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me.”

Practical Steps to Avoid Unknowing Sin

  1. Stay Humble

    • Acknowledge that you don’t know everything and ask God for clarity and understanding.
  2. Live a Spirit-Filled Life

    • Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your thoughts, words, and actions. He will convict you of sin and lead you into truth.
  3. Examine Your Heart Daily

    • Spend time reflecting on your actions and attitudes. Ask God to reveal areas in your life that need correction.
  4. Pray for Others

    • Instead of condemning others, pray for their deliverance and reconciliation with God.

A Prayer for Deliverance from Unknowing Sin

“Lord Jesus, I come before You with a humble heart. Search me and reveal any hidden sins in my life—sins I may have committed knowingly or unknowingly. Deliver me from spiritual influences that may be affecting me or those around me. Forgive me, Lord, and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Teach me to seek Your opinion before making decisions and help me to walk in obedience to Your Word. Thank You for Your mercy, grace, and deliverance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
