Are You the Nicodemus or the BBC of Your Generation?

John 3:1-2, 1 Thessalonians 5:21, Psalm 12:2

Nicodemus vs. the BBC Generation

Today, many people harbor deep hatred toward individuals they have never met, basing their opinions entirely on hearsay, gossip, or one-sided stories. These are people who have chosen to align themselves with the BBC Generation—spreading opinions, judgments, and accusations without proper investigation or seeking the truth.

But Nicodemus was different.

  • John 3:1-2 shows us a man who sought the truth for himself:
“Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, ‘Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with Him.’”

Nicodemus did not rely on hearsay. He investigated, asked questions, and found out the truth for himself.

Who Are You?

Are you like Nicodemus, seeking to confirm the truth for yourself?
Or are you part of the BBC Generation, forming opinions and spreading negativity based on what others say, without any real understanding?

The Character of Nicodemus

  1. He Was a Man of Principle

    • Nicodemus refused to be swayed by what others said about Jesus. He wanted to see and understand for himself.

    • 1 Thessalonians 5:21:
“Test all things; hold fast to what is good.”

  2. He Sought the Truth

    • Nicodemus humbled himself, despite his high status as a Pharisee and a member of the ruling council.

    • He came to Jesus personally, at night, to seek the truth about Him.

  3. He Didn’t Rush to Judgment

    • Unlike the majority of the Pharisees, who condemned Jesus without evidence, Nicodemus took time to investigate.

The BBC Generation

The “BBC Generation” refers to those who:

  • Quickly form opinions based on gossip, rumors, or hearsay.

  • Pass judgment on others without seeking the truth.

  • Criticize and attack individuals, especially God’s servants, based on misinformation.

Here are common examples of the BBC mindset:

  • “Over my dead body will I go to that church.”

  • “Switch off that channel! I don’t want to see that man.”

  • “Is that a church or a shrine?”

Many of these same individuals have, over time, seen the truth and changed their confessions. For those who haven’t yet, we pray for God’s mercy to open their eyes.

What the Bible Says About This Behavior

  1. Psalm 12:2:
“Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts.”

    • People who trust hearsay are easily misled because the truth is often hidden behind lies and flattery.
  2. 1 Thessalonians 5:21:
“Test all things; hold fast to what is good.”

    • As Christians, we are called to verify the truth for ourselves rather than blindly accepting what others say.
  3. Proverbs 18:13:
“To answer before listening—that is folly and shame.”

    • Judging someone without knowing the full story is foolish and brings shame.

Why Fighting God’s Servants Is Dangerous

  • Those who fight against God’s servants often do so out of ignorance, not realizing they are working against God Himself.

  • Acts 5:38-39:
“If their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

  • Fighting God’s work only leads to self-deception and spiritual delusion.

What Should You Do?

  1. Seek the Truth for Yourself

    • Be like Nicodemus. Don’t rely on hearsay or rumors. Investigate and pray for discernment.
  2. Pray for Discernment

    • Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into truth. John 16:13:
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.”
  3. Believe God as the Only Reliable Source

    • People may lie, but God’s Word is always true. Make it your duty to believe God above all else.
  4. Guard Your Heart Against Hatred

    • Don’t let what others say fill your heart with hatred or resentment. Proverbs 4:23:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
  5. Pray for Mercy for Others

    • If you see others blinded by lies or hatred, pray for God’s mercy to open their eyes.

A Prayer for Truth and Discernment

“Lord Jesus, thank You for being the way, the truth, and the life. Forgive me for the times I have judged others based on hearsay or rumors. Teach me to seek the truth like Nicodemus and to hold on to what is good. Help me to guard my heart against hatred and deception, and give me discernment to recognize Your will and purpose in every situation. Let my actions and words reflect Your love and truth always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Final Encouragement

Are you the Nicodemus of your generation or the BBC?

  • Be someone who seeks the truth, even when it’s inconvenient.

  • Refuse to let gossip or misinformation dictate your thoughts and actions.

  • Trust God as the only reliable source of truth.

Remember, those who fight against God and His servants only deceive themselves. Instead, pray for clarity, seek wisdom, and let God’s truth guide your steps.
