Why Do You Want to Control What Only God Can?
Why Do You Want to Control What Only God Can?
2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Philippians 4:6-7, Proverbs 3:5-6
Focus on What You Can Control, and Leave the Rest to God
As humans, we often exhaust ourselves trying to control situations that are beyond our ability. But the truth is, there are things only God can handle. When we stop striving for control and start trusting Him, we open the door for His strength to manifest in our weaknesses.
2 Corinthians 12:7-9:
“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
What Can You Learn From Paul?
Admit What Is Beyond Your Control
Paul was a great apostle, yet he had to acknowledge that the “thorn in his flesh” was something beyond his control.
It didn’t mean God abandoned him; rather, it meant God was working out His plan through that weakness.
Trust in God’s Plan
Sometimes, the things you cannot control are part of God’s divine plan.
God chooses what we go through, but we choose how we go through it.
Allow God to Manifest His Strength
God’s response to Paul was: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
Instead of focusing on what you can’t control, focus on allowing God to show His strength in your life.
What Should You Do?
1. Be Happy With What You Can’t Control
Stop resisting or worrying over what you cannot change.
Instead, choose to be happy and smile, knowing God is in control.
Philippians 4:6-7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
2. Focus on What You Can Control
Ask yourself: “What can I do today to align myself with God’s plan?”
You may not be able to control circumstances, but you can control your attitude, responses, and faith.
3. Make Gratitude a Habit
A happy heart is a thankful heart. Saying “Thank You” to God shifts your focus from what you lack to what you have.
Gratitude is a powerful act of faith that acknowledges God’s goodness and sovereignty.
4. Surrender to God’s Timing
- Trust God’s perfect timing and His ability to work all things for your good. Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Happiness Is a Choice
True happiness is not the absence of problems but the presence of trust in God. When we choose happiness, we declare that:
We trust God’s plan.
We believe His grace is sufficient.
We know He is in control, even when we are not.
“Thank You” is the response of a joyful and trusting heart.
A Prayer for Trust and Surrender
“Lord Jesus, thank You for teaching me to trust You in all things. Forgive me for trying to control what only You can. I surrender my weaknesses, struggles, and challenges to You today. Manifest Your strength in my life and let Your grace be sufficient for me. Teach me to focus on what I can control and to leave the rest in Your hands. I choose happiness, gratitude, and faith, knowing You are working everything out for my good. Thank You, Lord, for Your love and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Final Encouragement
Stop trying to control what only God can handle. Let go and trust Him completely.
Be genuinely happy and smile, knowing that God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness.
Say “Thank You” often—it’s a sign of a grateful and joyful heart.
Declaration:
“God’s grace is sufficient for me. I will focus on what I can control and trust Him with the rest. I choose happiness, gratitude, and faith because I know He is in control. Thank You, Lord, for being my strength and my peace.”
