Are You Ashamed to Talk About Him?

Are You Ashamed of Jesus?

Jesus is still on trial today—not because of what the world says about Him, but because of how we treat Him in our daily lives. Many of us hesitate to talk about Jesus because of:

  • Status in Society:
    “What will people think of me? Will I lose my reputation if I talk about Jesus?”

    • John 12:42-43: “Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in Him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.”

  • Worldly Pleasures or Dirty Money:
    “If I profess Christ, it may expose my secret lifestyle that isn’t pleasing to Him.”

    • Mark 8:36-37: “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”

  • Fear of Offending Others:
    “I don’t want to lose my friends or business partners by being too ‘religious.’”

    • Luke 6:26: “Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.”

  • Avoiding “Weirdness” on Social Media:
    “Social media is better for politics, gossip, or breaking news—not for preaching the gospel.”

    • Luke 21:13: “But this will be your opportunity to tell them about Me.”

Jesus Calls You to Take a Stand

Luke 12:8-9

“I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges Me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. But whoever disowns Me before others will be disowned before the angels of God.”

To be ashamed of Jesus is to deny Him. Jesus expects us to stand boldly for Him, even if it means facing ridicule, rejection, or persecution.

How Should You Respond?

1. Use Your Platform to Share the Gospel

  • Jesus has no mouth but your mouth to tell others about how He died for their salvation.

  • Luke 21:13: “This will be your opportunity to tell them about Me.”

  • Whether it’s through conversations, social media, or your workplace, use your platform to spread the gospel.

2. Live a Life That Glorifies Him

  • Let your actions reflect your faith so that others can see Christ in you.

  • Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

3. Accept That You May Lose Friends

  • Following Jesus often comes with a cost. Be prepared to lose worldly friends, but know that your reward is in heaven.

  • Luke 21:17-18: “Everyone will hate you because of Me. But not a hair of your head will perish.”

4. Keep Your Eyes on the Eternal Reward

  • The sacrifices you make for Christ on earth will be honored by Him in heaven.

  • Matthew 16:24-25: “Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Me will find it.”

Why Should You Share the Gospel?

  1. It’s a Command From Jesus

    • Jesus instructed His followers to spread the gospel to all nations.

    • Matthew 28:19-20: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

  2. The World Needs the Message of Salvation

    • The gospel is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.

    • Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.”

  3. To Fulfill Your Purpose as a Christian

    • You were created to be a witness for Christ.

    • Acts 1:8: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Practical Ways to Share the Gospel

  1. Share Your Testimony

    • Tell others how Jesus has transformed your life. Your testimony is a powerful tool for evangelism.

  2. Use Social Media Positively

    • Post Bible verses, sermons, or encouraging messages that point people to Christ.

  3. Engage in Acts of Kindness

    • Let your love and generosity reflect the love of Christ.

  4. Pray for Opportunities

    • Ask God to create moments where you can share your faith with others.

A Prayer for Boldness to Share the Gospel

“Lord Jesus, I thank You for the gift of salvation and for the opportunity to share Your love with others. Forgive me for the times I have been ashamed or hesitant to talk about You. Fill me with boldness and wisdom to proclaim Your name, even in the face of rejection or ridicule. Teach me to use every platform and opportunity to point others to You. Let my life reflect Your light, and may I never forget that my greatest honor is to stand for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Final Encouragement

  • Don’t be ashamed of Jesus. Use your voice, your hands, your social media, and your life to proclaim His name.

  • Remember, your reward is not on earth but in heaven.

  • Stand boldly for Christ, and He will stand boldly for you before His angels.
